  2. Unable to rename folder or file in a long path folder (updated)

    Hi Greg,

    Thanks for suggesting Feedback Hub.

On the other hand, in my first post I posted step 1,2,3. Your links contains the same, but no more.

The issue is in File Explorer, that means I need solution in File Explorer, not in PowerShell.

To be more precise the issue is: I can't create new folder in a long path folder. Just now: I solved it half: I can copy a folder to a long path folder. That's fine but I cannot rename folder or file in a long path folder.

    Regards

Honestly, I don't understand why you haven't already tried to boot with WinPE or other live disk and manually remove the file? This example using Macrium WinPE boot disk, download Macrium Free and let it create a boot disk for you. Option to create one is shown automatically when you launch Macrium first time:

    1. Switch to C: drive
    2. Change the working folder to your OneDrive folder
    3. Check that the file has no Read Only (r) and System (s) attributes set. As the file name in your case is quite long, you don't have to type the full name. Use the *.* wildcard to replace any number of characters in file name and any extension, in your case command attrib .849C*.* should be enough
    4. If r and / or s attributes are shown for the file, remove them with command attrib .849C*.* -r -s
    5. Check that attributes r & s are removed
    6. Delete the file with del .849C*.*
(Steps 3 & 5 not necessary; step 3 because removing attributes as in step 4 removes them if set but does no harm if not set, and step 5 because the attrib command works for 100% sure if no error messages are given.)

The file should be removed now. You can test with command dir .849C*.*, it should not be shown anymore.

Onedrive Folder long path syncing issue

Intrusive OneDrive installation, hijacking of folder paths.

    Hello Chadi, this is Emily.

OneDrive indeed can be confusing and frustrating to use.

I know this folder path issue too well and I hear you. In order to return the folders back to its original location in C:\users\your user folder, there's a key step you had to do before you unlink and uninstall. I am just going to lay out the detail step by step here for you. Step 4 is the step most users didn't realize they had to do, thus leaving the folders still in OneDrive folder even after unlinking and uninstall.

In order for us to sort all of these out, it is necessary (just for now) to get OneDrive desktop app back up and running.

To do so, go to your Start menu and see if you already have the OneDrive app installed. If so, go ahead and run it, sign in. If you don't have it installed, you will need to download it, install it back and then set it up. You can download it from here: https://www.microsoft.com/microsoft-365/onedriv...

Once you have the OneDrive app up and running again, please follow these steps closely:

    1. Right click on the OneDrive cloud icon on the lower right on your taskbar to go to Settings.

    2. On the "Sync and Backup" tab, click on "Advanced Settings" to expand that section. Then under File On-Demand, click on "Download all files".

    3. Give it plenty of time to allow the files to be downloaded from the online cloud. On your computer's file explorer, you can observe the OneDrive folder and its folders/files inside. You want all of the green checkmark icon to turn solid green with a white checkmark. Depends on how many files you have, this process can take a while, so please be patient.

    4. Once all of the folders and files turn into the solid green icon with white checkmark, you can go back to OneDrive Settings. Very important - click on "Manage Backup" button, then turn off all folders listed there.

    5. After you turn off the folders sync in Step 4, now go to Account tab, click on "Unlink this PC"

    6. Go to your Windows Settings > Apps, find OneDrive and uninstall it.
