As you can see in this screenshot the pictures is greyed out I tried deleting the folder and then resetting to default location but it had no effect. How in the world do I correct this? The path Onedrive uses often messes up my games and even screenshots so I prefer to upload using the website rather then the application. Is there any way to reset this back to default?

    :)

Can not Restore Default location of picture folder "Failed to build the list of known sub-directories"

    Hi there,

I am currently trying to change the location of my pictures folder to the default folder since I do not want it on my onedrive, but when I click on "Move" on the folder's properties, it comes up with the error of "Failed to build the list of known sub-directories". This still shows up when I click "Restore Default"

    I have tried:

    • Giving me full permission on the onedrive folder
    • Taking ownership of the folder
    • Running SFC Scannow
I have even tried changing the key in regedit yet it still forces my picture folder into the onedrive folder.

ONEDRIVE IS A VIRUS - How do I restore my Document, Pictures, etc to defaults?

Cute response but a pathetic answer since it does not recognize the simple issue that when a program is uninstalled it should remove the redirects that it places in the registry. By not providing the basic ability to restore the default directories, Microsoft
OneDrive has deviated from the norms provided by the plethora of decent software developers on the market today.

I can only imagine that the refusal of Microsoft to remove all registry entries, refusal to restore default locations for documents and pictures, and refusal to allow one to use the built in 'location' changes in windows explorer settings is an intentional
way to force people to use OneDrive. In doing so, Microsoft has committed what I consider to be much like what a 'hijack' program does by making it nearly impossible to properly remove OneDrive.

Fortunately, although tedious and time consuming, I have found a solution.

    1. Run Regedit
    2. Create a backup of the registry (in case you make a bad mistake)
    3. Do a search for the onedrive folder. (it would default to C:\users\XXXX\OneDrive\ [xxxx = your actual username])
    4. Open every entry and delete the portion from XXXX\OneDrive\ to be XXXXX\ (remove OneDrive from the path)
    5. close the registry
    6. reboot
And by the way, I am quite familiar with OneDrive and use of Microsoft Windows tools (like regedit).

Cannot restore default location of pictures to C drive in windows 11

I recently uninstalled onedrive from my pc (unlinked from this pc, and uninstalled the app). I am now restoring my libraries to their default location on C drive. I have been able to restore my other Libraries (ie Documents, Music, Videos etc), but when I try to restore Pictures the only Library location option is Pictures in the onedrive folder ie (C:\Users\User\OneDrive).

    My steps:

In file explorer navigation plane - click on Libraries

    right click on Pictures Library

    select Properties

    click on Restore Defaults

and this is where the default Library location appears as Pictures (C:\Users\User\OneDrive)
