Windows 10: OneDrive has removed my local C Drive functionality?

I just joined the droves of people annoyed by the oneDrive storage warning and went and cleared the storage not knowing it would clear my actual machine. I have been able to restore the most important personal files but my machine's file explorer now doesn't work. When I open it it looks normal, but freezes once I click on something. I tried to include a picture, but I can't even DL the photo from my email and attach it from the browser.... There's a little blank white page next to everything including the C: Drive. How can I restore functionality to my computer after being hit by this malewar

Recent shortcuts for apps show files on OneDrive instead of local hard drive

I was able to follow the steps and uncheck the "Use Office apps to sync" box but it didn't change Office's behavior. I opened and closed an Excel spreadsheet on my local hard drive. After that, when I right-clicked on the Excel icon pinned to the taskbar, a link to the OneDrive cloud file was in the list of recent files instead of a link to the file on my hard drive.

Do you have any other suggestions?

OneDrive vs. Local drive and back up drive

I am setting it up so all files are synced between onedrive and my computer. What I'm trying to figure out is once I remove all the files that are on my c: drive (local) under users, pictures/documents and just use the onedrive folder are those the same type of file as what was locally on my c drive under users?

 

Synchronise files between OneDrive and my local hard drive, i.e., in both directions?

Thank you for you suggestions, I may explore these in due course!

If we view the OneDrive folder (visible on the Local drive) as being distinct from from the OneDrive ( data/folders in the cloud) then the lack of synchronisation between the Local folders (on C and the OneDrive (on C makes sense, because they are one
and the same, there is no need for it because they are both "local".

Synchronisation then occurs between the OneDrive (Local) and the OneDrive (Cloud), and vice versa, depending on which device you are accessing the Cloud from.

If we manually copy or backup our Local (C folders to OneDrive (C we are just duplicating the information on C:, and vice versa. With this view it's now understandable, at least to me.

The status of the OneDrive files (on C may play a role, but it does not look like this "synchronisation" is necessary on the Local C:, especially if the files statuses are set to "Always available on this device".
