Onedrive hijacked my windows user file locations and uploaded everything

    Hi,

I was trying to get my backups optimised and I somehow selected an option where Onedrive changed my desktop, documents and pictures folders to be uploaded to onedrive. What I was trying to do was to have my gmail account archive to my onedrive folders so I could then back them up to my NAS.

I keep my (windows user) documents, desktop and pictures files separate for privacy reasons (i.e. any cloud can and will be hacked or just basically accessed by the owners of onedrive at some point) and all of a sudden they were merged and uploading/sync started.

Since then, I have been able to separate again several of my folders by using Windows Explorer to reset the locations of the folders to my local computer folders. However, I am unable to change the location of my pictures folder with the following sequence when I set it to my local user folder location:

Do you want to move all of the folders from the old location to the new location? YES

Do you want to redirect folder "Pictures" into another system folder "Pictures" located at XXXXX? If you proceed with redirection you will not be able to separate them of restore default location. Do you still want to proceed with redirection? YES

Can't move the folder because there is a folder in the same location that can't be redirected. Access is denied.

Could you advise how I can use the Windows Explorer link to access my photos without having to upload them to onedrive?

    Thank you,

    T

    :)

    OneDrive is hijacking Win10 users

I have recently installed Win 10 1803 on a new PC. By default the system use my OneDrive folder to contain documents.

This is a very intrusive and inconsiderate move as a user's document folder can contain lots of files and easily break one's free OneDrive quota. It totally messed up my OneDrive use behavior and I have to take extra steps to move my user folder away from
    OneDrive.

I'm not going to use OneDrive for personal file storage and moving to alternative services in future.

What's funny is: I spent a few minutes to find the "OneDrive" topic in the forum's category list and failed. It seems no one has a clue what's happening to this service...

  4. Onedrive hijacked my windows user file locations and uploaded everything

Document Library hijacked by OneDrive after update

This issue may be due to an incorrect location target. To correct this, kindly follow these steps:

    • Right click the Documents folder where OneDrive files are showing.
    • Select Properties, and then Location. Yours might look like this:
      C:\Users\Your username\OneDrive\Documents.
    • If this is the case, you will need to create a new folder, select all the OneDrive files in the
Documents folder, and then change its location to transfer it to the created folder.
    • After emptying the Documents folder, right click it and change the location to:
      C:\Users\Your username\Documents.

Feel free to post back should you need any help with Windows.
