OneDrive is updating files forever / continuously

I have recently purchased a new computer and last week I set up my account on it for the first time. I have a large OneDrive at over 250GB. All of the data has now been sync'd down to my new computer I like to keep all of the data locally but now in the last 29.6 GB, it won't ever finish. The picture below shows the state that things are in all the time...

OneDrive is updating files forever / continuously 2ee19498-3e0d-41a4-b7c5-22aec63cfdac?upload=true.png

The syncing never actually finishes, even though there is nothing left to sync to my knowledge. If I restart my computer, I get this below:

OneDrive is updating files forever / continuously 5b7dda8e-0dfe-45e2-9bb2-1a23800073d4?upload=true.png

As you can see it starts over and downloads the entire 29.6 GB again. Patiently I wait for that to complete but then it gets stuck just like above. Other thing that I have tried that have no effect:

    • Pause / unpause the sync no effect, starts over the whole sync, gets stuck again
    • Log out / log back in no effect, starts over the whole sync, gets stuck again
    • Going into OneDrive app Settings -> Account -> Unlink this PC, then re-link no effect, starts over the whole sync, gets stuck again

Again, the entire size is over 250 GB, so there is something about this last "batch" of 29.6 GB that is preventing OneDrive from realizing that it's work is complete. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

    :)

  2. Windows 10 - OneDrive

Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

If that is still insufficient, there is a batch uninstaller for OneDrive available online. I can copy the code here if you need it.

  3. OneDrive Continuously Updating

You say this is no error message as such but it says under "Onedrive is updating files..." that it is syncing 1 file forever, So you may very well have 1 file that is "unsyncable" so to speak and is constantly trying to be synced.

Try to pause the syncing for a bit.

Go to OneDrive > More > pause syncing.

Does the file stop trying to sync?
