Windows 10: OneDrive keeps changing my default documents path

Dear Microsoft,I am deeply annoyed by the OneDrive functionality. I like the integrated cloud function and the way I can store files in the cloud. There just are private documents that I specifically do not want to share with Microsoft. That is why I specifically choose to make my OneDrive folder a different one then my personal folder. When installing I always uncheck all switches to sync Documents, Downloads and Pictures. At first this works fine but after some time, OneDrive just "decides" I should sync my personal files and moves my documents to the OneDrive and changes the location of my

How do I change the default path definition for "Documents" from my OneDrive location C:\Users\...\OneDrive\Documents

to C:\Users\...\Documents

The default for everything is OneDrive and I don't want that. I want the file explore to point to my local C drive and not the OneDrive start

Ok, that's a bit messy.

To play this safe, I would recommend that you go to OneDrive via web browser to download your files (which is the newer version, right?) and put them locally somewhere outside of OneDrive folder, so that no matter what we do with OneDrive, they will not be affected, for now.

Then I will suggest that you go to OneDrive settings, do steps 4 and 5 above.

Then sign back into OneDrive, at the step where it was asking you for the OneDrive folder path, set it back to the old path. Then perform step 4 again. The intention here is to return your shell folders (documents, desktop, pictures) back to local level and out of OneDrive.

If you want to continue using OneDrive, you can leave it at that, otherwise continue with unlink and uninstall.

Then you will have to manually sort through your files after that to decide what to keep.

 

Change Default Document Folder Location to local Drive from OneDrive Windows 11

Hi, I wish to change document folder's default location from OneDrive to local drive. It is currently configured as follows:





I have unlinked OneDrive from everywhere else on my laptop. However, all my other attempts to change the default path for the Document folder to my local drive have come unstuck. Now the only option left for me is to modify the document path in the registry as I do not have access to access to gpedit.msc due to my Windows 11 version being a home edition.

Please suggest if this step would solve my issue.
