Windows 10: OneDrive Message Center Updates January 1st to January 15th

Hi everyone,

Here are the latest updates to the OneDrive service! We’re excited to kick off 2019 with Mac Files On-Demand becoming generally available and OneDrive Sync Client Mass Delete. As always, feel free to leave your feedback, comments or questions below.

Mac Files On-Demand is now generally available
Rolling out in January

OneDrive Files On-Demand helps you access all your files in OneDrive without having to download all of them and use storage space on your device. When you turn on Files On-Demand, you’ll see all your files in Finder. New files created online or on another device appear as online-only files, which don’t take up space on your device. When you’re connected to the Internet, you’ll be able to use the files like every other file on your device.

Initially as Files On-Demand for Mac rolls out, the feature will be on by default for new users on macOS Mojave. This feature will be ramped on for existing users over the coming months. Admins continue to have the ability to disable or enable this feature via a preference.

For a device to be eligible for Files On-Demand for Mac, you will need to be on the latest macOS 10.14.2 or higher, and OneDrive version 18.240.1202.0001 or higher.

OneDrive Sync Client Mass Delete Prompt
Rolling out in February

Coming this February, whenever someone deletes more than 200 synced OneDrive or Team Site files at once from their device, the OneDrive sync client will prompt the user to confirm it was intentional. If it was accidental, the user can tap Restore Files to bring them back, otherwise tapping remove will delete them as usual. If a user wants to skip the new behavior, they can select the Always remove files box before tapping Remove to skip the prompt for future mass deletes.

OneDrive Message Center Updates July 1st-15th

We are excited to announce three new updates coming to the OneDrive desktop client this month. These features will help users feel more in control, empowered to provide feedback, and better educated about what’s happening with their files.

Pause OneDrive sync when Battery Saver is on

Begins rolling out to customers in July 2018

To help conserve battery life on Windows devices, we are making improvements to the OneDrive desktop client to automatically pause sync whenever the device switches to “battery saver” mode.

As soon as we detect that a device enters “battery saver mode” we will automatically pause syncing and show a Windows toast notification informing you of why the desktop client was paused. Once we detect that the device is no longer in “battery saver” mode, OneDrive will auto-resume.

We will also give you the option to ‘Sync anyway’, which will un-pause sync and will respect your selection while OneDrive is running (until you sign-out or exit OneDrive or shut down your device) even if the devices switches to/from “battery saver” mode.

In addition to the toast, OneDrive Activity Center will inform you that OneDrive is paused because the device is in “battery saver” mode

Send Feedback

Begins rolling out to customers in July 2018

You are now able to send positive or negative feedback to us as well as suggest new ideas by clicking on “Send Feedback” under OneDrive desktop client settings/preferences menu from any device running the OneDrive desktop client.

You can send us feedback on what we are doing right or what we need to improve on and address, as well as suggest a new idea by clicking on either “I like something”, “I don’t like something”, or “I have a suggestion”. If you have a suggestion or an idea, clicking on “I have a suggestion” will take you to our UserVoice site where you can submit a new idea or upvote an existing one. If your organization has “Report a problem” disabled, the same policy will also disable “Send feedback”.

We’ve modernized the OneDrive Activity Center to improve ease of use and understanding. The Activity Center is your go-to place for seeing the status of the OneDrive desktop client or to customize your experience. This experience will begin rolling out to customers in late July

OneDrive Message Center Updates December 1st to December 15th

Hi everyone,

Here are the latest updates to the OneDrive service!

This month, we’re rolling out new integration with Microsoft Flow and improved support for UPN changes in the OneDrive sync client. We also have an update on the new Manage Access experience.

New Integration with Microsoft Flow
Rolling out in December

Easily create and run out of box Flow templates directly from OneDrive. Just select a document and click on the Flow button in the command bar. You’ll automatically have the options for the Copy as a PDF and Request sign-off Flow templates. Run the Flow and with one click you can create a copy of any document for a PDF or send off an approval.

Improved support for UPN changes in the OneDrive sync client
Available Now

Starting with the November sync client update (build 18.212.1021.0008), the OneDrive sync client (on both Windows & Mac) will automatically switch to sync the correct OneDrive location after a user’s UPN changes. Please note that, while the UPN change is propagating, users may see an error message informing them that their library cannot be synced. Users who see this should restart the sync client once the UPN change has completed. For more information on how UPN changes affect OneDrive scenarios, see How UPN changes affect OneDrive.

New Manage Access Experience Update
Delayed to January

In our previous Message Center Update, we announced that the new Manage Access experience was rolling out to Production in late October and November. We've identified an issue with the existing release that prevents users from removing specific external users from sharing links (though the link itself can still be delete as a whole). We are rolling back the new Manage Acess experience until January while we fix this issue. We appreciate your patience!
