Windows 10: OneDrive removing my desktop files

Hello, somehow most of my pc's desktop is synced to OneDrive and the icons have a green check mark. I just got a new laptop and when I set it up I noticed that those same icons from my pc is now showing on my laptop. I tried to un-sync the desktop folder but then it just removes all the synced icons from my pc. How do I keep all my icons and just remove the green check marks so they aren't being shared?

Remove OneDrive

Hi .... wish to remove OneDrive from fresh install W10.....
have uninstalled it from inside Control Panel but am unnerved to find a OneDrive folder lurking in my username folder, which contains some 10GB predominantly a clone of my Desktop ... please, please could someone provide the steps necessary to completely remove it ..... thanks in advance ..... Cannot Remove OneDrive from Desktop

Hey everybody, ran into a problem that I can't seem to fix and was hoping for some help.

I had to reinstall Windows 10 the other day and in doing so, OneDrive came up. I uninstalled it from the Control Panel, but it left an empty folder on my desktop, which appears in the toolbar as well as in Explorer.

I ran the suggested registry changes as described here: How to remove OneDrive desktop icon Solved - Windows 10 Forums

Still, nothing.

Any ideas on how I can fix this annoying issue?
