  1. OneDrive Sync Issue - Item name contains character that aren't allowed

Hi,I copied a few files and folders & their names are all small in length without any weird characters, just plain English characters into my OneDrive folder. After copying is completed, the app shows the error that sync cannot happen because the item name contains characters that aren't allowed. The issue shows a weird name that always starts with ${......metadata. Since it doesn't give any meaningful msg and no option to click and go see and rename the so-called "item" it says, I cannot do anything. It happens sometimes whenever I try to copy new files to it. & the weird thing is that

Honestly, I don't understand why you haven't already tried to boot with WinPE or other live disk and manually remove the file? This example using Macrium WinPE boot disk, download Macrium Free and let it create a boot disk for you. Option to create one is shown automatically when you launch Macrium first time:

    1. Switch to C: drive
    2. Change the working folder to your OneDrive folder
    3. Check that the file has no Read Only (r) and System (s) attributes set. As the file name in your case is quite long, you don't have to type the full name. Use the *.* wildcard to replace any number of characters in file name and any extension, in your case command attrib .849C*.* should be enough
    4. If r and / or s attributes are shown for the file, remove them with command attrib .849C*.* -r -s
    5. Check that attributes r & s are removed
    6. Delete the file with del .849C*.*
(Steps 3 & 5 not necessary; step 3 because removing attributes as in step 4 removes them if set but does no harm if not set, and step 5 because the attrib command works for 100% sure if no error messages are given.)

The file should be removed now. You can test with command dir .849C*.*, it should not be shown anymore.

The password contains characters that aren't allowed.

I've tried changing my Microsoft password using numbers, lower and uppercase letters (random, no names or words) and keep getting "The password contains characters that aren't allowed.". OS: Windows 10 Pro.

OneDrive Sync Issue - Item name contains character that aren't allowed

Unable to rename/delete folder in OneDrive that has name problems

    Hi all,

I recently allowed the Windows update to v1903 and all looked OK, except I know have a c:\users\xxxxx.000 directory (where xxxxx is the user name). Anyway, while trying to ensure everything was OK with OneDrive, somehow I managed to create a directory call
"desktop " - with a space at the end - in the OneDrive folder list.

Now I receive a OneDrive sync error saying that this folder contains characters not allowed. When I try to rename it, I receive a message in explorer saying that the item doesn't exist. Similar message if I try through a command line. Note that the folder
hasn't sync'd so it is on my laptop only.

Suggestions on how to remove the folder? Short of rebuilding the PC!

    Thanks!
