Windows 10: Onedrive Sync / Sharepoint Sync

Hi

In trying to figure out a way to not sync my files in onedrive and sharepoint but still have access to the data stored their via the links in FileManager. We came across Files on-demand on my co-workers computer which works for him but I can't see that setting in my install. It is found in the Settings of OneDrive, under the settings tab bottom option. Any ideas on how to get it to appear?

OneDrive sync now supports IRM protected SharePoint document libraries

Information Rights Management (IRM) lets people set access permissions to help prevent sensitive information from being printed, forwarded, or copied by unauthorized people. When permission for a file is restricted by using IRM, the access and usage restrictions are enforced even if the file reaches unintended recipients. This is because the access permissions are stored in the document, workbook, presentation, or e-mail message itself, and these must be authenticated against the IRM server.

In SharePoint, IRM lets you protect your files when downloaded and control who can access downloaded files. Downloaded files are encrypted and can only be opened by users that meet the requirements of the IRM policy set on the SharePoint library.

We are currently rolling out an update to the OneDrive sync client that supports syncing IRM protected SharePoint libraries and will hit all users by the end of January. If you want to try this out now, you can find a direct installer link below.

Follow these steps to allow your users to sync IRM libraries:

Deploy and install the RMS (Rights Management Service) client to your users’ machines.

Make sure the OneDrive sync client is up to date. The minimum version required for IRM sync is 17.3.7294.0108 and you can download it here. To check your version: Right click on OneDrive in the taskbar > Settings > About.

Have your users navigate to any IRM protected SharePoint document library and click ‘Sync’.

Announcement: OneDrive Sync Updates

All of us here on the OneDrive Team have been hard at work delivering many of the OneDrive sync client updates we communicated at Ignite to further improve the user experience and administration of syncing files from Office 365. With the holidays rapidly approaching we wanted to give you an update on those enhancements
.
The best part is the latest OneDrive sync client will automatically update with these new capabilities. If you aren’t running the latest OneDrive sync client, or aren’t sure, you can learn more here.

Activity center
The activity center is now available in the latest OneDrive sync client on Mac and PC giving you visibility to the most recent sync activity and status. Simply click on the OneDrive icon in your system tray (PC) or Finder (Mac) to see your file sync

Conditional access
You can now restrict OneDrive sync to only domain joined or workplace joined devices. You can even make access contingent on PC health if you like. All of this can be managed through the new OneDrive admin center preview and by configuring Azure Active Directory policies. Learn more here.

Syncing SharePoint sites
Making sure you have the information that is critical to you on every device no matter where you are is key to our customers. The ability to sync SharePoint sites directly to OneDrive is one of these features that makes doing this easier and simpler for end users. We’ve had great feedback on the public preview of syncing SharePoint Online document libraries in the latest OneDrive sync client. We remain committed to providing a reliable and performant sync experience for all your Office 365 files and continue to refine the public preview to meet our quality expectations. We’re on target to make this capability generally available in January.

Standalone Mac client
Ever since we added OneDrive for Business support to the latest sync client, we’ve seen an increase of adoption and interest from the Mac community. However, one of the largest blockers for enterprise deployments is that most admins do not want to utilize the Mac App Store to deploy and distribute software due to its limitations.
Today we’re releasing a standalone OneDrive sync client for Mac that you can deploy and manage outside of the Mac App Store. This standalone client also provides sync status visual overlays in Finder, a Finder shortcut for OneDrive, and the ability to set-up OneDrive sync to run at log in. This latest client also has built-in multi-language support. You can get the standalone client for Mac here.

Microsoft OneDrive to get differential sync in Q2 2017

Microsoft's latest OneDrive roadmap shows Q2 2017 as the ship target for a long-awaited feature: Differential sync.

Microsoft roadmaps are fluid things -- sometimes so fluid that a subtle change may go unnoticed by many (especially me).

A prime example of this: The OneDrive roadmap.

I hadn't noticed until a reader (thanks @BrokenCanoe) asked me yesterday when and if Microsoft planned to provide differential sync in OneDrive.

Last February, Microsoft listed differential sync -- the ability to sync only the parts of files that had changed, not entire files -- as a firm commitment, but with no specific public release target.

Differential sync is a much-requested OneDrive feature, as it will save time and bandwidth. And it's a feature that OneDrive rival Dropbox, for one, already has...
