OneDrive took all my files away and now can't return them to my C: drive because it wants...

I’m running Windows 10 and have used Microsoft One Drive as a backup for years. I had my files on the cloud, which I could access via browser. Something must’ve changed while I was at the OneDrive site because I started getting OneDrive pop-up notifications on my desktop, which I hadn't seen before - something about not having enough space. I realized with panic that One Drive had just swallowed all of my space in C, leaving a mere 100 MBs free I had 5 GBs free. Apparently, One Drive was downloading files from my cloud storage onto my laptop as a supposed “sync”, which is not somet

C Drive doubled after copying music files to OneDrive!

This is puzzling and frustrating. I moved my 30,000 (approx. 270G) of music files from OneDrive to Music folder recently. Then I decided to keep a copy on OneDrive, so copied them over there. All of a sudden my C Drive shows 607G full, which is about double
what it was before. I can't see any temp files or anything extra that would explain the additional size. My Carbonite app is also showing almost double the number of files backed up. And to make it all even more confusing, my OneDrive only shows 3.42G full
while listing all my music files, which makes no sense. HELP!

I am 70 years old, not as sharp as I used to be although I've used PCs since 1983. I can't understand all the instructions and lingo on support sites anymore. Please help me with simple step-by-step directions if you have a clue what might be going on. Thanks
in advance for kind and helpful replies OneDrive took all my files away and now can't return them to my C: drive because it wants... :)

Recent shortcuts for apps show files on OneDrive instead of local hard drive

I was able to follow the steps and uncheck the "Use Office apps to sync" box but it didn't change Office's behavior. I opened and closed an Excel spreadsheet on my local hard drive. After that, when I right-clicked on the Excel icon pinned to the taskbar, a link to the OneDrive cloud file was in the list of recent files instead of a link to the file on my hard drive.

Do you have any other suggestions?

    Thanks!

Moving files from OneDrive to PC Drive

    Thanks Abram

Much to my frustration, I'm finding when I delete file from OneDrive, it also deletes that file from my C drive. All pics one my OneDrive are also listed on my C drive.

I shall keep trying, but thanks for your quick response.
