Windows 10: OneDrive uploaded a large folder and now holding all files hostage, demanding upgrade.

I configured OneDrive to not sync pictures folder as I was adding a large folder to it. OneDrive synced it any way. Now denying me access to any thing on it and removed the files from my personal drive. And demanding upgrade.Don't want it and don't need OneDrive. Attempting to remove large folder as have it safely backed up on a reliable SDD USB drive. Can't.How do I get the few files that were previously sync'd? And disable OneDrive completely?

OneDrive won't synchronize a folder with a large number of files

OneDrive won't synchronize or upload a folder that contains a large number of files. This problem is persistent, and other people have reported it. What happens is that OneDrive spends a couple of days working (with lots of disk activity but no usage
of the Internet at all), and then reports that all files and folders are up to date. They are not: the folders are present on OneDrive but the folders are all empty.

Others have reported the same problem. Someone has offered answers that go off onto irrelevancies. Just to be clear:

• The issue is not the size of files, the issue is the number of files.
• The issue is not internet connection speed; the issue is the number of files.
• The issue is not speed of upload; OneDrive doesn't upload the files at all.

 

File History & OneDrive on Demand

I know that "files on demand" aren't saved on my computer. However, I still have the following problems:

• After starting a new File History backup from scratch (as suggested in the first response) the majority of my Onedrive , including almost all files that are marked as "Always Keep on this Device" are not backed up.

• Even for files marked as "Files on Demand" - surely File History should be able to back them up anyway? The whole point of a good backup system is that you have copies of files in multiple places (and OneDrive's cloud system only counts as 1). The creation
  of the file history would be download heavy as it copies every file to my backup device, but after that it should only have to download single files as changes are made.
  

 

Large upload to Onedrive

The first step is to purchase or otherwise have that much free space in OneDrive.

The second step is to make sure that no individual file is larger than 10 GB since that is OneDrive's limit for a single file. (OneDrive for Business has a larger cap.)

The third step is to simply drag and drop your files onto the OneDrive interface. That much data will take several days to upload.
