OneNote on iphone not syncing to Toshiba laptop

There are several factors that affect the syncing of OneNote from the phone to laptop. It could be on the account, settings or internet connection. To further isolate the issue, please provide the following information:

• Are you getting any error messages when trying to sync?
• What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
• Are you using the same OneDrive account on your laptop with the phone?

 

Problems with OneNote 2013

"OneNote" is now part of the Windows 10 installation and is the most up-to-date version of the app. "OneNote 2016" is an older version no longer being updated with new features. Microsoft thus recommends using OneNote app installed with Windows.

• What's the difference between OneNote and OneNote 2016?

As for OneNote 2013, I can not speculate as I don't have it. BTW for those running Office 2019 or Office 365....

• OneNote 2016 is missing after installing Office 2019 or Office 365

All that said, on my Win 10 machine I've got two OneNote apps installed... OneNote, and OneNote 2016 but that again, I've also got Office 365 (Academic version) installed. I use the Windows 10 version though.

BTW I just educated myself on this via your question because I didn't know what the difference was and assumed 2016 was the "newer" version. So thanks

 

Syncing OneNote to Windows Phone

I should have realized that there is no way to create new notebooks on the phone. My bad.

Here is what you do.

• Go to skydrive.live.com on your PC
• On the top left corner, you will see an option called 'CREATE NEW'.
• Use that to CREATE a new NOTEBOOK. Please give it the name 'TESTING' (This is very important. The name, has to be TESTING)
• A new notebook will open in your computer browser. Add some dummy content, as you please.
• Once you are done, on the same window, top left corner, you will have an option called SKYDRIVE ( a tiny logo). Click on it and you will be back to your SkyDrive and you should see a notebook called TESTING listed.

If all the above steps were done successfully, go on to the next steps now.

• On the phone, open ONENOTE app.
• Once the app is running, at the very top, you will see a word called NOTEBOOKS. Tap on that.
  
• This should bring to a list of notebooks. Tap the '...' on the bottom right corner of the app and you will see a button called SYNC.
  
• Tap SYNC and wait.
• Did the TESTING show up in the list?
