Windows 10: OneNote Files Disappeared

I realize that this is now a legacy app . . . no longer enhanced; however, I had developed a rather extensive set of notebooks containing recipes that I cannot duplicate. When I launch OneNote 2013 as I have always done, there are no notebooks available. I'm told I don't have any. I did some searching and found a post from some years back saying that the files are stored at C:/Users/username/Document/... . When I look in that path with File Explorer I find that the Document folder is empty. The post that provided that path info also mentioned that the files were stored there and then stored online, but where? I don't know where to look. I cannot find any files among my backups either.


Are these files gone forever or is there something I can do to recover them.

Send to onenote

Hi,

It may be an issue with the add ins in OneNote, we suggest that you disable OneNote add-on and enable it. To do so, follow the steps below:

• Open Internet Explorer.
• Click Manage add-ons.
• On the left pane, click Toolbars and Extensions.
• On the right hand side of the page check for Send to OneNote add-on. Highlight
  Send to OneNote and click on disable.
• Once the add-on is disabled highlight the add-on again and enable it.

Note: To enable the File menu in Internet Explorer press the
Alt key on your keyboard.

You may also perform an online repair in Office 2007, to do an Online repair, follow the steps below:

• Press Windows + X.
• Click Control Panel.
• Click Programs and Features.
• Right click Microsoft Office, click Change.
  
• Choose Online repair.
• Follow the on-screen instructions.

OneNote contents gone

I did not try that and can't see how it would change anything as I am signed on, but it's worth a try; thank you. My chat with them didn't solve anything and she didn't suggest yours. I'l try it now.
I removed it; logged out and back in.
Nope didn't work; my notebook appears in greyed out mode for one second or so and disappears.
My two step verification with MS was covered by an app called authy which gave me a six digit code.

 

OneNote 2016 opening on startup

Hi,

In order to turn off or disable OneNote 2016 at startup, we suggest that you follow the steps below:

• Right-click on the Taskbar, and select Task Manager.
• On the bottom right of the Task Manager window, click the drop-down arrow to open
  More details.
• Click the Startup tab. This tab shows the programs that are enabled on Startup.
• Right-click OneNote 2016, and click Disable.
• Click File, then Exit.
• You may then restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
