Hello, I have had this problem since 10/22. I have a been using a Lenovo laptop with HDMI to 4k tv for extended monitor. It worked fine since 2017. 1080p res all of the sudden downgraded to 1231 x693. Or just a cheap 720. Please remember the tv is 4k, so it was displaying 1080 most hd vids and 4k for the few that had that resolution. I have exhausted all solutions so here goes: 1. Thought it was driver, so started there with intel first. 2. They could not find error suggested it was device. Replaced Lenovo 80ud WIN 10 with a 81vu win11N5030 quad core instead of dual, HD 605 inste

    screen resolution

    Hi Lynne,

These erratic behaviors in windows 10 may be caused by some changes that happened on your computer. What were the most recent changes that happened on your device? Was there a software change? Did you recently upgraded to another version of Windows10? If
yes, which version was it? Was there an update installed?

Initially, let us address your screen resolution concern, you may try setting your monitor to its native resolution. Kindly follow the steps below:

    • Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.

(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)
    • Tap or click PC and devices, then tap or click Display.
    • Tap or click the resolution slider and drag it until you find the resolution marked (Recommended). This is your monitor's native resolution—usually the highest resolution your monitor can support.
    • Tap or click Apply.

If the above steps will not work, since this may also be a driver issue, you may also follow the troubleshooting steps found on
Window too big for screen. Kindly check the resolutions provided on a post created
    by Nachappa C K.

For any other issues that may occur, please get back to us with the answers to the above inquiries so that we can assist you further.

Online screen resolution tests show half of native resolution

    Screen resolution difficulties.

Every monitor has what's known as a native resolution equal to the number and layout of the pixels on the screen.

To illustrate: The native resolution of my monitor is 1,920 x 1,080 which means that each row of pixels contains 1,920 pixels and each column of pixels contains 1,080 pixels.

The native resolution is the resolution that you are supposed to use. You can use other resolutions, but the image will look fuzzy and motion will look awkward.

You need to determine the native resolution of your monitor. That'll be easy, since it's on the box, in the manual, and shown in the manufacturer's website. Then you need a graphics card that can output at your monitor's native resolution. That's how you
get the correct image size and the best appearance.

The last step is to go to Settings > System > Display > Resolution, and make the setting there equal to your monitor's native resolution.
