Windows 10: only stereo - Dell 7577 and Denon x3200w no passthrough/bitstream

I have notebook Dell 7577 connected via HDMI to avr Denon x3200w. Until an approx. month ago (cannot exactly specify the date maybe two months) I was using this setup for DTS, Dolby Atmos, 7.0 etc setup (passthrough/bitstream) sound from notebook to avr. I was able to specify dolby atmos for home theater in windows sound settings. Now I have my denon marked only as digital output without posibility to change output from stereo (in windows sound settings) to other like 5.1 7.1 or dolby atmos for home theater, and when I try to use bitstream/passthrough in media player classic or kodi I have no sound at all.

Same story on my other pc which works fine until approx same day.










kodi with setup which worked before and now outputting no sound at all (digital output was named denon before so I assume that it cannot correctly detect the device but do not know why?), only without passthrough I have sound but only stereo









I try to

disable all enhancements
Set advanced to 24bit, 96kHz

reinstall realtek drivers from dell for my 7577
tried to updated drivers for all sound devices

reinstall nvidia drivers
install nvidia drivers from beginning of the year (no change)
install back actual nvidia drivers
Yes I have source video files which support surround sound and It previously worked fine
No change in wiring
avr surround works fine from other sources
No I dont want to use any additional sound card or other wiring method
I tested everything with multiple HDMI cabels and with different avr inputs

HDMI Passthrough on Windows 10

I have windows 10 desktop (HP Envy 700-339, i7, 16G ram) that I use almost exclusively for media playing. I have it hooked up to a Denon receiver via HDMI, and the Denon Receiver is connected via HDMI to a projector.

This setup has been working very well for the past 10 months, Plex would send the video and non-decoded audio stream to the receiver, which would decode the audio (DTS, Dolby, etc) send to the speakers and life is good.

I ran Windows 8.1 for about 6 months or so and for the last fee months I upgraded to Windows 10. However a few days ago, after an update, the HDMI Passthrough stopped working. The only way I can get audio now is via multiple PCM Channels (I.e. Decoded by
the desktop), Passthrough simple stopped working.

I have tried everything possible, re-installed drivers, re-installed apps (VLC, Plex, PowerDVD, all with same result, no HDMI Passthrough). I even tried rolling back since the last critical update (hum, 2 days before I noticed the issue).

Anyhow if anyone has any suggestions I'm open for anything. I'm about to pull the plug and do a new install (Windows 8.1). This is really basic, and I've seen a bunch of other posts saying it is a know issue... But no real resolution. Hopefully some can
shed some light here.

HDMI Passthrough on Windows 10

Just correcting an error about VLC here. VLC does indeed support audio bitstream passthrough. Just go to Tools/Preferences, and select "Show Settings/All" in order to see the Advanced Settings. Then go to Audio and select Use S/PDIF when available.

Just wanted to make sure nobody else is going to give up on VLC when it was one of the first products to support this properly!

 

Windows 10 Creators Update - after update Cast media to device doesn't work with Denon receiver

I did all the steps listed above and I'm still in the same spot -

The result of the DISM scan was: Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Just to short cut some of the other things you might suggest,

• I deleted and re -added the Denon AVR-X3000 in the Bluetooth and other Devices pane -
• I also went to the Device manager and checked the Denon AVR-X3000 for updated drivers and they were the most current version.
• I also went to another Windows 10 machine that was not updated to the Creators version on the same internal home network and was able to Successfully discover and Cast media to my Denon AVR-X3000 (more specifically I opened YouTube.com selected a video
  in the Edge Browser and was able to Cast media to the Denon AVR-X3000 where it played normally - I did the same the audio only sound stream previously linked).

I believe this shows that the Denon is operating properly and the problem rests with some setting in Windows that for some reason is blocking the use of the Denon as a cast to device or blocking Cast in general? Perhaps it's due to Miracast not supporting
it? For example... does Miracast only support Video devices like TV sets and not pure audio receivers? Do you have any way of asking around to figure this out?
