Only Virtual machine installs 10 for me...???

Regardless of the installation route I try and regardless of the build number... whether it be USB/DVD installer or via the upgrade route that installs via a windows update.... the installation process simply hangs at the black windows 10 logo screen with the 4 blue squares in the centre....... even left it while I slept for 8 hours.... it won't budge.... *Sad

But install Vbox and Windows 10 preview happily installs.... *Rolleyes ... but of course it doesn't run as fast as having the access to this laptop's full spec and so moving off a Virtual machine and onto the real deal was a natural choice.

I now have to wonder if it doesn't like my native x64 bit system....? Although being only 4 years old and having Windows 7 installed at purchase, I feel that is unlikely.

If anyone has any idea or suggestions or anyone else faces the same issue please chime in.

Tried calling MS.... what a complete joke that is and utter waste of time.

    :)

I have a laptop with Windows 10 I am told the App is incompatible with the PC. Is there any way I can stil use it?- I have tried running the compatibility program.

Only the original developer of the program can help you. Microsoft cannot 'make' incompatible software run on Windows 10. Compatibility mode might make it possible to
install the software on Windows 10, but it's not likely to run properly or at all..

You can install Windows 7 in a virtual machine on Windows 10, and install your program on the virtual machine. The virtual machine won't be able to access your Windows 10 computer, but if you store your databases in the cloud that won't matter.

  3. Windows 10 stays valid after upgrading virtual machine version?

I'm in the process of doing the free upgrade of Windows 7 to Windows 10 in a VMware virtual machine which is at virtual machine version 8. When Windows 10 finishes installing I'll have to upgrade the virtual machine to virtual machine version 11. Will
the Windows 10 license stay valid/activated after upgrading to virtual machine version 11?

I myself haven't had an issue installing 10 on any device as of yet, while your hardware may be the issue (although probably not?) i wouldn't have thought it to be age related as many people have installed 10 TP on very old machines.

With regards to calling M$, you are not going to get support on this from them at the moment.
I'm not even sure if they take direct support calls for released Operating Systems.

The preview is purely for you to play with and help provide feedback so M$ won't really investigate any issues you have directly.

There have been a few posts here latley getting Win 10 TP installed, maybe someone has got over this hurdle and will post their solution.

    Thanks for chiming in Jamie...

I see it being perfectly logical business model decision to release previews of 10 in order to make use of the WWW of global windows enthusiasts to help shape it and iron out bugs before it's officially released... sadly if you're having issues with anything we can't talk to anyone and the forums are the only route to assistance.

I also don't think my 4 year old laptop's hardware is the problem.... surely a virtual machine still has to make use of the available hardware to run...?

    Samsung RV-511-S01UK
    i3 dual core @ 2.53Mhz
    6GB RAM @ 1066Mhz
Nvidia discrete 315M 1024MB dedicated VRAM
    Windows 7 home premium x64 pre-installed

Oddly... when I went down the route of installing windows 7 x64 pro (which I also own) on a spare Samsung 850 EVO 250GB and then plugged it into my laptop SATA port as main drive and chose to try the 'upgrade' route it went all the way through initial stages and even popped up a window that said 'checking your system compatibility'. It then proceeded to download the HUGE update file required and all looked like it might work..... but then the 'loading files' standard white bar across the bottom of the screen and straight away it goes to the same black Win 10 logo screen with the 4 blue squares and stops there !!!

Perhaps it didn't like my Win 7 x64 Pro..... so my very last attempt is to try installing a clone to the Samsung Evo SSD of my Home Premium edition that came with this laptop (identical backup image of my system I keep on another HDD) and then once more try the upgrade route... but I'm not confident because even trying to use the USB installer originally it stops at the same screen.

Question : Any of you who are successful with installation.... can you recall when the same black Win 10 logo screen I speak of appeared during installation?
and how long did it remain before moving on..?
and what was the next screen....?

Anyone know how to create a logfile of installation process in order to see exactly where it's stopping and try to identify why....?

It might be worth going to Samsung's site and seeing if there's a BIOS update, or other recommended software, available for people upgrading your model of laptop to Windows 8/8.1. If you can get it compatible with Windows 8 then there's more chance that 10 will work.

Running in a virtual machine means that Windows 10 isn't directly trying to access the BIOS or drivers, which is probably why it works.

I'm pretty sure there is a logfile in a hidden and/or system folder somewhere, but I can't remember exactly what it's called or how to find it. I think the files might be called setupact.log and setuperr.log?

I already have the latest BIOS and all updates from Samsung's website. Interestingly I posed the question over on Microsoft for one of their people to hopefully have some ideas. The stream of info in this post are worth reading carefully for anyone about to try windows 10 preview.

Apologies if this is already here but it can't hurt having it twice... some people search thru subject titles on the forum threads first to see if anyone is having the same issue.
