Windows 10: onscreen touch keyboard

I want to use my onscreen touch keyboard but nothing happens when I click the icon in the tray at the bottom of my screen. I have a regular keyboard but I need to use some emojis for a particular kid and I don't know of any other way to access any except from the onscreen keyboard. I know this sounds dumb just typing it... but since I am already here maybe someone could tell me if there is another way to have access to an emoji set with out using that keyboard. I appreciate any help or a point in the right direction... Thank you! Tracy A.

How are you bringing up the keyboard?

For me, I right click on the Taskbar and select Show touch keyboard button, then when I click on that I get the Onscreen keyboard at the bottom of the screen and it looks like this:

My onscreen touch keyboard never pops up in any text field. I have tried almost all the troubleshooting steps found on thos forum.but nothing has worked so far. Pleaae help : )

this is the On-Screen Keyboard we're talkin about, not the Taskbar Touch Keyboard...
