Windows 10: Open and Use Disk Cleanup in Windows 10

The compression works extremely well - 85% for windows and 90% for program files - my windows 10 install (including 51 programs) is (just) under 3GB if you exclude page file and user data etc which is smaller than the ISO I installed it from - see here Microsoft promises less disk space Win10 - Windows 10 Forums

Is the system compression option the same as using the command-line function+option:
"compact /compactos"?

So for instance this queries the current state:
Code: compact /compactos:query[/quote] And these commands change the state to be on or off.
Code: compact /compactos:always compact /compactos:never[/quote] I seem to remember that compactos is only recommended for solid state drives, and indeed the System Compression option doesn't appear in Disk Cleanup on my old laptop with spinning disk.

I have an RCA Windows 10 tablet that only has 321 GB storage. Right now it's in the red stage because I installed Office 365 ProPlus, so I need to delete Windows.old, but it doesn't show "Previous Windows Installations" so it doesn't seem I can remove it. I tried to just delete it with admin privileges (although I knew it wouldn't work), but no dice.

What next?

 

Found it! It was under "Cleanup System Files"! I'll be able to get rid of more than 10GB on the tablet! Yay. That should put me back into the green.

The extra screen real estate vs an extra $30 was a no brainer for me. I've already discovered that I can "scribble" on it; haven't explored that feature a whole lot more yet. It comes with a full size USB port, a mini HDMI port and a mini USB port. An electric charger comes with it and it can be charged with A "plug into the wall" USB charger as well. So, it looks to me like I can use my house phone charger as well, although the one that came with it is just as convenient.

The only drawback I've found is that the "hard drive is only 32GB and it will only take an extra 32GB SD card for extra storage. It came with the July 29 version of Windows 10, of course and I immediately updated it to the Windows 10 November update: hence Windows.old. It comes with the full version of Windows 10, so there's not a whole lot of extra hard drive space. I installed Office 365 2016 ProPlus and quickly discovered I shouldn't orta did that! However, once I figured out how to delete Windows.old, I got back 7+GB of space. For some reason, you don't get as much as it says you will.

Final downside is that Windows vs Android is that I can have a whole lot more apps with Android than with Windows. Still, Windows is my OS of choice and I'm happy with it.

If you don't use it for work, I'd say, "Go for it!" Just be careful of how many apps you install. *Smile
