'Open file location' gives 'file does not have an app associated...'

I believe this started happening when a program I installed modified some entries in the Registry. I tried System Restore but I got an error that has something to do with the WindowsApps folder, but long story short, I can't perform a System Restore. sfc /scannow and dism /scanhealth found no problem. The only issue I'm getting is that opening paths from various applications including Windows Explorer gives me this error: Here are some apps I've observed that give this error Opening the containing folder of a downloaded item on Firefox Opening paths on Everything Search Trying to open the file location of lnk or shortcut files on Windows Explorer Something strange I noticed is that those same apps don't have this problem on the other user account on this computer. It's only my account. There seems to be no wrong entries inside HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder so I don't what's causing this.

    :)

    opening .dds files with gimp

Simply, HOW? I got the DDS plugin but the POS wont open DDS files still. Can someone give me a step-by-step rundown of how to install the DDS plugin for gimp so I know if I'm missing something?

  3. Removing File Association that opens file with specific app

How do I reset a file to its original file association (in this case "NO ASSOCIATION")?

    • I mistakenly tried to open a ".pieceshash" file [ b4ec92e20ca80c0524198cc75cededf138401f97.pieceshash ] and
    • chose to open it with IE (with the check box set to always open with this app).
Now I cannot remove the file association. Please Help. Thanks

Open file location is missing in pinned apps

    ,
No, that's not the sort of 'file location' the OP is referring to. Your 'file location' opens File Explorer at the location of the shortcut for that app in the Start Menu's Programs folder. The OP wants the list of recently opened files, or the Jump List as it is known (hover over each one and it shows its file location). Theirs is turned off (and yours by the looks of it).
