Windows 10: open shell

    open shell


    on my windows 10 pc i had installed open shell and it worked fine for awhile. But notice it not working correctly so i tried to uninstall it which in the past worked just fine. After i saw it not working correctly I tried to uninstall it. the option asks if i want to close all programs it also close explorer. This time i tried to uninstall it and ask that but it said windows could not close all programs or something to that effect. When i tried to reboot it would not boot to the desktop it would go to the screen where it says my name and picture and no further. Tri

    Classic shell

    I have no idea why I was apparently one of the few who had to do this, but I finally got it working by doing everything suggested here.

    I had never used Revo Uninstaller and had the idea that these "cleaner' things can maybe do more harm than good, so was reluctant to go in that direction.

    That being the case, I:

    • Restored the computer to a pre-August update state
    • Did a normal uninstall of Open Shell
    • Rebooted
    • Allowed the August updates to install
    • Re-installed Open Shell
    This resulted in the same symptoms (menu briefly flashing when clicking start button).

    So I hesitantly:

    • Restored computer to pre-August update state
    • Downloaded and installed Revo Uninstaller
    • Used Revo Uninstaller to uninstall Open Shell nervously selecting the most aggressive cleanup options
    • Rebooted
    • Allowed August updates to install
    • Re-installed Open Shell
    To my surprise, it worked!

    Thanks to those who emphasized the need to uninstall and re-install and those who said to use Revo Uninstaller when uninstalling.

    Okay if you've got it launching on boot and there are still problems I'd be inclined to uncheck the boot option then uninstall it and maybe try ethel's suggestion.

    WINDOWS 10 Updated, Open-Shell stopped working, bad desktop reappeared

    sethian, I suggest you uninstall then reinstall open-shell. Or uninstall open-shell and install classic-shell which seems to work fine for me.
