Windows 10: "open with" does not start the program I select but adobe pdf reader

I am using windows 11 21H2. When I right click a pdf file and select "open with" and select "pdf sam", then the file opens in acrobat reader.The same happens if I select "open with" and select "pdf annotator", the file opens in acrobat reader...If I open pdf sam or pdf annotator first, I can then select the file and it opens fine in the correct program.I would like to be able to start from the file and use the right click and "open with".Thanks for your helpChris

  Click on Adobe Reader and set that application as Default.

  Click on Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
  
• 
  Select any pdf file Extension.
  
• 
  Click on Change program.
  
• 
  Select Adobe Reader.

• Does the issue persist in Edge browser?
• Do you get similar error when you open the PDF file in Adobe reader?

Check if you are facing similar issue in Edge browser.



Step 1: Open PDF file in Adobe reader and check if you are facing similar issue.



To open PDF file directly from Adobe reader, follow the steps below:

• Open Adobe application and click on Edit.
• Click on Preferences and select Internet.
• Uncheck Display PDF in Browser option and check if you are able to open the PDF file without getting the error code.

Step 2: If you are able to open PDF file in Adobe reader, I suggest you to
Turn off Internet Explorer,
enable it again and check if the issue is resolved.
