Windows 10: Opening a JAR file in Windows 10?

Hi, hope I am posting this to the right forum section.

I have this JAR file downloaded and of course, it needs Java in order to open it.
In Windows 10, is there any way to find out if I have Java installed?
Or, can Windows 10 open up JAR files natively?

If not, then how can I know if I have Java installed on Windows 10?
In Windows 7, it was easier to know.

The hex values translate to the following:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -jar "%1"

That's the command-line path used to open JAR files, usually. If the path or version number varies, you may have to edit the registry manually and update the value data.

 

my .jar file opens as internet explorer

i am downloading the minecraft server jar for 1.12.2 and the .jar file opens as a internet explorer link in staid as an executable jar file. please help fix this.

If you did an upgrade,chances are high that you would have Java installed.Control Panel>Java would confirm you this.
Isn't the JAR file opening?

 

I would say look in folder c:\program files or c:\program files (x86); if you find an folder Java\jre xxx\bin with java.exe in it you have Java installed.

 

I had this exact same problem. A few web searches produced a program that re-associates .jar with Java Runtime. If you are certain that it is installed try this program:

It's even easier than that to check for Jave: Open control panel - has an entry if installed.

From it's CP you can update and after that it should associate.

Windows cannot natively open jar files.
