Windows 10: OPENING A SAVED PDF DOC

Trying to open a PDF document, as a PDF doc that I downloaded and saved on my laptop. When I click on 'open' a message box appears. I am given two options--either convert it to a Word doc or 'Cancel". How do/can I open my doc the way that it should be, as a PDF document?

Thanks Andy, that makes sense, although I would have prefered for the pdf to have been saved in the documents folder and the various pdf readers then just look in that folder and automatically display all pdf docs.

Guess I'll re-transfer the pdf and open my prefered reader.

 

Convert docs to pdf

May I ask how do you normally open your files?

For docs (Microsoft Word Documents), when saving a document (Save or Save As), you can set the "Save as type" (see screenshot) before saving the document and it will be saved as PDF.

If you have a jpg file, you can put it into a Microsoft Word Document and save the document as PDF as an alternative way.

If my suggestion did not solve the issue, please reply back so we can try another solution.

We suggest that you save the PDF files on your device and check if the issue persists. You may also want to associate the PDF files to Microsoft Edge as the default program to make sure that you have a default application that will open all of your PDF files.
Here are the steps:

• Search for Default Programs.
• Go to Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
• Select the .pdf file type and then click the Change program button on the upper right of the
  Set Associations window.
• Choose Microsoft Edge and then click OK.
