Windows 10: Opening documents saved in Word

Hello

I have many documents created in Open Office but saved as Word docs so they can be sent to others in a readable form. Suddenly they no can no longer be opened and any attempt to do so brings up a window stating that 'You are trying to use Office but you don't have Office' and offering the option to purchase it. But I have had it on this device for years (even after conversion to Windows 10) or I couldn't have saved the documents in that format!

In Settings it offers only the option to Uninstall which I am reluctant to do for fear of losing vital docs. Many vital docs, including those stored in the cloud, are inaccessible and all have the red frame on their icon.

Any suggestions, please?

• Does the issue occur when saving other documents?

can not open word document


I just upgraded office 2007 to office 2016. On all of my fils that I made with my older version can be opened with 2016. But if I create a new document with Word 2016 and save it, when I try to open it a message pops up telling me that this is valid only with installed products. When I open it, I do have the option to "open with". I can choose 2016 and it opens. When the option "open with" comes up I would think that there would be another choice that says "always" open with but it doesn't. So nest time I have to go through the same steps to open it.This happens only with Word but not Excel. My OS is windows 10.
