Windows 10: Opening Excel file causes DIR to disappear

Discus and support Opening Excel file causes DIR to disappear in Windows 10 Network and Sharing to solve the problem; After the last few rounds of Windows 10 Updates we are having users experiencing strange permission issues and DIR/Files disappearing and reappearing...     Opening Excel file causes DIR to disappear


    After the last few rounds of Windows 10 Updates we are having users experiencing strange permission issues and DIR/Files disappearing and reappearing

    Example:

    I map network drives using a login script

    Our fileserver is Sever 2012

    Our user systems are Win10


    Users login in and navigated to a network mapped folder call it Y:\root\Katrina Under this DIR there are several Excel files that link to each other File named “Import Ordering Spreadsheet New Item.xlsx”

    This file pulls information from these two files
    Import Ordering Spreadsheet Update.xlsx
    Import Ordering Spreadsheet.xlsx

    When the user opens the file under Y:\Katrina Import Ordering Spreadsheet New Item.xlsx the DIR Katrina disappears from explorer. the other root DIR’s remain visible When the user tries to save the file we get the error Y:\Katrina Import Ordering Spreadsheet New Item.xlsx cannot be found. When the user closed the Excel document the Y:\root\Katrina reappears in explore.

    Occasionally these files lose all permissions and an administrator has to reset the ownership

    I am able to replicate this issue on several systems on this network

    CSV files used to open in Excel....not now!

    Hi, you say Excel is installed. Does it run normally?

    You can't find Excel in (an unspecified) list of applications. I don't know which list that is for sure.

    For example, in the list related to:
    - rt click a file. Open With
    - this list:

    - this list:

    Opening Excel file causes DIR to disappear [​IMG]


    - some other list...

    If Excel does not appear in the above, I suggest you repair your office installation.

    Maybe the above gives you some ideas. Otherwise please post a screenshot of where you think you should see it but don't. Thanks.

  3. excel file causes instability in "windows explorer"

    When I open an excel file by double clicking on the name in windows explorer, the file opens OK but at the same

    time, the explorer file list jumps up and down as it lists and de-lists the

    excel temp file. It is very distracting. I can close the explorer window or

    simply change to another folder. It occurs only on one of my computers and only on some excel files

    It happens only with excel files and not with word or acrobat

    Any suggestions where to look for the problem. We've reinstalled Office 10 and reset my windows profile. nothing helped so far.

    Excel file type disappeared

    Can you open Excel without trying to open a file. There should be an Tile on the Start menu or in the list of all programs. Also check to make sure it is listed under the list of installed programs. It may be part of Office 2016.

    Go to Start > Settings > Apps select Default apps and see if Microsoft Excel is listed under Choose default apps by file type. Look down the list for .xls, if it is listed and shows anything other than Excel then change it to Excel.

    PS. another thought, when your file opened with Adobe did it display correctly.
