Windows 10: Opening OneDrive

Okay, not a big technology person so I apologize if this problem isn't phrased well.


I can't open OneDrive. I updated and restarted my computer so I'm sure that isn't the issue. However, a few weeks ago, I did try to uninstall the graphics software on my computer in an attempt to fix another problem I was having. I think my OneDrive stopped working after that. I can find the OneDrive app when I search it, but am unable to open it when I click it. I can also find the app under the "Apps and Features" section of my settings.


When I try to click the shortcut to the app in File Explorer, an error message comes up that says, "This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action. Please install an app or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Apps Setting page". But I was unable to find OneDrive in the apps listed in "set defaults by app" when I tried to create an association. I also tried to uninstall and reinstall OneDrive, but that didn't fix the problem. It's like the OneDriveSetup.exe can't fully reinstall OneDrive. Anyone have any other ideas?

Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

If that is still insufficient, there is a batch uninstaller for OneDrive available online. I can copy the code here if you need it.

I am unable to open OneDrive and the Control Panel on Windows 10 App list. This started only a couple of weeks ago. Any suggestions?

• What happens when you click on Control Panel?
• Do you get any error message or code?
• Did you install all pending Windows updates?
• Did you make any changes in your system prior to this issue?

I would suggest you to right click on the Start button and select Control Panel from the list and then check if its working. If not I suggest you to refer to the steps mentioned by
