Windows 10: Opening the Home tab in explorer crashes it

This is my first post, so sorry if it's a bit vague.Today, explorer started crashing when I launched it. I figured out it was the Home tab that was crashing it, and I have tried everything to fix it with no luck.When crashing, it shows the error: Exception Processing Message 0xc0000005 - Unexpected parametersWhen looking at it in Event Viewer, it says this: The shell stopped unexpectedly and C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe was restarted.

Window Explorer crashing on add tab

I understand that you experience crashing every time you add a tab on file explorer. Please follow the steps and see if it fixes the crashing of your file explorer.

*Open your Task Manager.

*Click the down arrow beside the more details.

*Look for Window Explorer/File Explorer from the list under the processes tab.

*Select Windows Explorer/File Explorer, right-click on it, and select Restart.

*Open your file explorer then add the tab.

If you still have an issue, please try the steps below.

*Press Win + R

*Type %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations and press enter

*On the top of the File Explorer window click the three dots

*Click Options

*Uncheck "Show files from Office.com"

*Press the "Clear" button to clear File Explorer history

*Delete everything inside the AutomaticDestinations folder that you just opened

*Restart PC

After restarting, open your file explorer then add the tab.

Windows Explorer Crash

Thank you for your reply. If the above steps did not work, let's try another workaround. You can try restarting your Windows Explorer from the Task Manager and see if it will resolve the issue. Follow the steps below:

• Open Task Manager.
• Click the drop-down arrow beside More details.
• Under Processes tab, look for Windows Explorer from the list.
• Select Windows Explorer, right-click on it and select Restart.

After doing so, open Windows Explorer and see if it will crash again.
