Windows 10: Opening windows on monitor where they were triggered

Hello,

I use latop with Win10 with 2 connected monitors as my work daily driver.


I am constantly fighting with windows opening on random monitor.

I think it may be because windows is remembering, where the last window of this type was opened.

However, I rearange my windows often as I need and then it is very annoying, if you have outlook on M1, you want to create new email and mail window opens somewhere else. Then you open new browser window and it is opening elsewhere and so son and so on.


I have a very basic requirement - force windows to open new windows on the screen where they were triggered from. I don't really care, if it is done under the hood by window focus tracking, by cursor position or a black magic, but if I am currently working on M1, I want new windows opening on M1. If I move to something opened on M2, I want anything I trigger to open to be opened there. This has to apply for windows opened from other application, start menu, New instance opening from taskbar from already running application...


Is that possible natively from windows?


If not, can anyone suggest some 3rd party utility?

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

I suggest you to try making the other monitor as the main display and check if that helps. Please follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Press and hold Windows key +
   I, to open Settings.
   
2. Click on System and click on
   Display.
   
3. Now, click on the other monitor on which you want to see the prompt.
   
4. Scroll down and click on the check box Make this my main display.
