  1. OpenSSH not working after upgrading from Windows 10 to 11

I had been using OpenSSH to connect successfully to my computer using ssh keys for a long time. I then upgraded my computer with mostly new hardware which made it compatible with Windows 11, so I installed Windows 11. Now SSH connection attempts timeout and I cannot figure out why.Things I tried:- disabling antivirus- checked firewall, OpenSSH ports are allowing traffic- checked the adminstrators_authorized_keys file and permissions- uninstalling and reinstalling OpenSSH Server and Client in Services- connecting from multiple other machinesI have another mini PC that upgraded to Windows 11 a

Windows Sandbox on Windows 11 lacks OpenSSH

I upgraded to Windows 11 from 10. When I launch Windows Sandbox, there is no ssh support in it (I need ssh to remote-connect to external machines). I see that the OpenSSH folder is missing in the Sandbox (C:\Windows\System32\OpenSSH), although it's present in the host machine. In Windows 10 it was present and functioning fine.

  3. Windows 11 home Openssh broken

    Hi royski,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

One possibility is that the OpenSSH client is not added to the system PATH variable.

    • In our test environment (Windows 11 Pro), the SSH-related environment variables are configured as follows.

Due to the limited testing environment (Windows 11 Pro & Windows 11 Enterprise only), we are not sure if the OpenSSH in Windows Home you describe is a widespread functional issue or missing component.

    • Would you mind sharing some OpenSSH-related articles or links you've read?

Thanks for your patience and cooperation.

OpenSSH not working after upgrading from Windows 10 to 11

    Windows 11 home Openssh broken

I use Windows 11 Home on a Dell XPC Desktop box, and installed OpenSSH Client using Windows Settings/App/Optional Features process. Loaded AOK, without any raised errors. I went to the MS Settings/Apps/Optional Features and found that it registered the installation as OpenSSH Client - AOK. I went to MS Command Prompt (as root) and checked if OpenSSH was functional. Got this result: " 'ssh' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." Immediately following that wonderful event, I then went to the Control Panel and checked it registered and loaded, and OpenSSH Client was listed as installed.

I have uninstalled OpenSSH twice more times, repeated the same process above and got the same faulted results. NO, OpenSSH and no functional ssh command, always giving me the same faulted message, as follows: " 'ssh' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

I also checked my Laptop and it does exactly the same thing. so I feel reasonably assured it is NOT me, but good ole MS, again.

I've also surfed the web and found lots of similar reports about OpenSSH not functional on Windows 11 Home PC's and laptops, from around the world.

It now has been 2 weeks of investigation with NO fix results.

Does anybody REALLY know what is wrong, and explain it in a language we can understand, without having to be MS VIP's?
