  1. Optimize and Defrag Schedule issue

So i have had this to TRIM my SSD weekly it as such it is scheduled as such

Optimize and Defrag Schedule issue [IMG]

Problem being it has NEVER did this weekly daily automatically I will randomly check this and it will say 20 ~40 days since last trim cause that how long it is before i actual check... it has always done, there is also NO task for defrag in the task scheduler well there is one if I look in microsoft under in task scheduler window it is enable but it never ran Do i actual have to manual set the trigger for it to work? cause EVEN when manual set the trigger to Weekly/Daily/Monthy/Once it does not actual run. it get listed in Active Tasks, but it not ran, and as soon as run defrag again it want to reset the schedule that never worked in first place

there for trim is not being ran automatically by windows 10 and trim dont work in window 10 in samsung magician . why is it doing this and how do i fix it. and yes I ran defrag as admin

And my HDD is schedules cause I use a custom script in Mydefrag to defrag it, I just want windows to run a trim once week and it never does it

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Disk usage 100 %

I had the same problem. I tried turning off automatic optimization/defragmenting and that made it way better, but still a bit slower than when I was using windows 7. To do this search for 'defragment and optimize drives', open and change the settings scheduled
optimization so that 'run on a schedule' is unchecked.

Windows 10 Upgrade says I have SSD but I have HDD.

I installed Windows 10 and after the upgrade it is reporting my HDD as SSD when I try to run optimize. The task is scheduled but the drive is not available for optimization because Windows thinks it is a SSD.

I was able to run a 3rd party defrag, (38% fragmented!), but would rather use the built in defrag on the scheduled maintenance.

Is there a registry fix or something to report the drive correctly?

    Optimize and Defrag Schedule issue

Despite there being a setting to TRIM weekly/daily, as you have found it doesn't actually trim weekly/daily, but instead will TRIM approximately once a month.

It's not a fault with your computer, both Windows 8 and Windows 10 have always done this for some reason.

  5. so i have to set it to trim monthly? in Defrag settings and then it will work?? cause I saw i done that too and never worked either.

Only time I ever seen Scheduleddefrag bet list as active in task scheduler is if go in it and manual set the trigger cause the trigger are never set.

I'm apologise, either I misread the original post or it was edited, but I never realised that TRIM has never ran on it's own so I don't know.

  7. I guess I will set to monthly in defrag and see it trims the SSD in month if it dont I will manuals set the trigger for the schedule defrag to do monthly and see if it works that way,

but like said by default the defrag schuedule is enabled and if I disabled it in defrag it get disable in task manager but it has NEVER been ran cause has no triggers, said trigger have to be manually set system rebooted for it to get listed as active tasks.

    Optimize and Defrag Schedule issue

I know this is an old post but it is the only one I could find that addressed the same issue I was looking for. I too have set up the Windows Defrag system scheduler an no matter what I set it to it never runs; i.e. set it for monthly an going back an looking at it it may say 'it has been 90 days since last optimization etc. Does this thing really even work? Since W10 was released I've had to manually launch the defragger an run it ( I have 5 drives 1 SSD 4 HDD) all it does is run the TRIM function for the SSD but the other HDD's need defragging each time I install a new program or remove one.
Is there a setting in Services that I need to look at? Looking I haven't seen anything that relates to that sort of thing.

    I would use Task Scheduler.

I was thinking the same thing...looking at it all the correct check boxes are checked though...guess I'll stick with doing it manually...

Check that your Task scheduler defrag task does not have the idle condition set -
    • Task scheduler library, Microsoft, Windows , Defrag
    • While you are there, check that its Action tab correctly refers to the drive you are investigating. If you have been doing any repartitioning work the task definition might not have changed automatically.

The idle condition used to be set by default in Windows 7 but I thought it had been changed in Windows 10.
If the idle condition is set then it is perfectly possible that optimisation never runs.
If, like me, you turn off / sleep your computer when you are not using it then it will never be idle.

If automatic optimisation [defrag, trim] really is not running despite the correct settings having been made then there is nothing stopping you from creating your own defrag task.
    • You can crib the settings from the default task definition then just tailor them to your own requirements.

  12. I just do it on a manual basis. I have an SSD and too much can shorten it's life.
