Windows 10: Option to upgrade to 20H2 is not present in 1903

Greetings,


I am currently trying to upgrade my machine to the latest October update 20H2 from my 1903 This is a Windows 10 Enterprise but the option to do so isn't available from what I can see


I have tried using the Windows 10 Update assistant as well but says that I am already using the latest version of Windows 10, could it be that I would need to first upgrade to 1909 first before being able to upgrade to 20H2?


I am aware that earlier versions before 1909 are also eligible for this update https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4562830/feature-update but I can't think of any other method in upgrading other than manually looking for the iso files and upgrading it from there with the media creation tool


Any advice provided will be appreciated, thank you.

Upgrade to 20H2 failed

The laptop was offered the feature upgrade to Win 10 20H2. It is still running 1903. It had failed 1909, 2004 with this error 0x80004005 - 0x1000A,The installation failed in the DOWNLEVEL phase with an error during PREPARE_FIRST_BOOT operation.

Since Microsoft does not like this laptop anymore I had done a chkdsk, a SFC / scannow and a disk error check from the properties tab. All errors fixed.

I stopped MS secutity, firewall and the Avast security for the upgrade.

Downloading and installing took some time and it looked as if the laptop was going through the motions. At the end it had just reverted to 1903 again.

What else can I do short of a complete reset?

 

1909 to 2004 upgrade

The 20H2 iso is available for download (see News section), so that naturally 'includes' 2004. This is a step preceding 20H2 becoming available by Windows Update in place of 2004; presently you'd be offered 2004 by WU then the 20H2 enablement package. All downloads are available following the relevant article in the News section.

It's an evolving scenario following the pattern of 1903/1909.

 

20H2 and Firewire/Audio issues

I have a MOTU Ultralike MK3 which I have connected through Firewire on my desktop.

My specs:

• ASRock B450M-HDV R4.0 Motherboard
• AMD 3800X
• 32 Gb DDR4
• Vantec PCIe Firewire interface with Ti chipset

Before my upgrade to 20H2 - my playback was quite stable but since this upgrade, I'm getting a bunch of weird playback glitches. That is not even under load. I just play a file in JRMC with the ASIO interface and I get multiple drop-outs glitches. The playback
definitely stops for 1 sec or so, there is no level showing up anymore during that second on my audio interface.

I changed two times already the firewire cable, and the firewire card as well.

My bios doesn't have a lot of options and I have the legacy 1394 driver installed which used to work quite nicely.

Any suggestions?
