Optional updates KB4571748 and KB4566116 for Windows 10 released

Microsoft released the optional updates KB4571748 and KB4566116 for Windows 10 versions 1809, 1903 and 1909 on August 20, 2020.

The preview updates are non-security in nature and designed for testing purposes (both for administrators but also Microsoft who collects Telemetry data). Most users should wait for the official release of these updates on the September 2020 Patch Tuesday.

Microsoft did add support for WSL 2 in Windows 10 version 1903 and 1909 in this release.

It is best not to install these updates on production machines, and to create system backups before the updates are installed.

Note that the updates are listed under optional updates in the Windows 10 Settings app under Update & Security > Windows Update.

The preview update for Windows 10 version 2004 is expected to be released next week.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

Optional updates KB4571748 and KB4566116 for Windows 10 released

Microsoft to make Windows 10 updates mandatory

Well, at the moment at least, you can choose to defer upgrades. Under Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options you need to check the box labeled "Defer upgrades". What does that do? Good question. The answer I've found might illuminate it to a degree.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/defer-upgrades-in-windows-10

I hear this only applies to Pro and Enterprise editions. But I can't verify that.
