Windows 10: Options are set to hibernate when I close the lid but my laptop goes to sleep instead

My setting: https://i.imgur.com/y0GLZZU.pngYet if I close the lid, use the power button, or the sleep button, it goes to sleep and ignores the setting. I have restarted the laptop, changed the setting to something else and back to hibernate, it still goes to sleep. If I select hibernate from Windows key then power button icon, it goes to hibernate so I know hibernate is working and enabled. The laptop just won't obey the setting for lid closing, power button, or sleep button.Windows 11 Home 24H2 build 26100.4061, recently updated. I checked for driver update manually, all seems to be up

Laptop goes into hibernation when I close the lid, even though it's set to sleep.

I have an HP laptop running Windows 10. Recently, whenever I close the lid, it goes into hibernation even though my power settings has it set to sleep. I tried changing the settings to hibernation then changing them back to sleep, and that worked once, but
then it went back to hibernation. Rebooting hasn't helped either. What could be causing this?

Before we assist further, I would like to ask you a few questions:

• Have you set Sleep function to activate on closing the laptop lid?
• Did you check if the laptop goes to sleep when not connected to external monitor and lid closed?

To respond to your questions

(1) I have set the sleep function to operate on laptop lid close only when the laptop is on battery power. When it is plugged in I have set it to do not sleep ever.

(2) I have tested that it does *not* go to sleep when I the laptop is plugged in and I close the laptop lid

Further information:

(1) When I first turned the laptop on I attached it to the monitor and closed the lid. It then ran successfully for approximately an hour before hibernating.

(2) I then restarted the system, external monitor plugged in, lid closed and it went to hibernate after approximately 2 minutes.

 

When I put my laptop to sleep then close the lid my laptop automatically goes to hibernation mode when it should be on sleep mode

You need to change the power settings and set your computer to sleep instead of hibernating when you close the lid.

1-Click on Start, search for "Choose what closing the lid does " and click on that

2-A new window will be opened, change the "When I close the lid" to "Sleep"

3-Then click on the "Save Changes" button

4-After this change, your laptop will always sleep instead of hibernating when you close the lid.
