Windows 10: "options" in file explorer is grayed out

HiI'm under windows 10 and file explorer has several random issues.Randomly, it will stop showing file thumbnails and have "options" grayed out. Sometimes it will not display folders' content, sometimes it will. It's very annoying.It's fixed by rebooting, but I don't want to reboot.I tried :-restating explorer-deleting thumbnail cache-enabling thumbnails in options -sfc scannownone fixed the issue.

Clear the recent list in File explorer

  Did you able to turn off the settings for "Show recently opened items in Jump list on Start or the taskbar"? Or is that grayed out?
  

If you can see the option to turn off the settings, I suggest you to turnoff and verify the result.

If the option is grayed out, I suggest you to restart file explorer and check if it helps:

• Right click on Taskbar and choose Start Task Manager.
• Look for Explorer.exe under Processes tab, then right click on it and select End Process.
• Now, try to create a new explorer.exe from the task manager.
• Click on File and then click on New Task. Type Explorer.exe and click OK.

I had solved my 2D & gray screen issue using advice posted by erocker (see below)
Mainly it involves creating a profile and putting higher 2D clocks:
