Windows 10: OptiPlex 790 SFF USB ports disabled when windows starts to load but works during post...

Hello, I have a problem where my USB ports are disabled when windows starts to load but it works during the post screen and in the bios. I don't know why this is happening as this started randomly a few days ago and I tried a few things to fix it but it still doesn't work. My mouse and keyboard are also USB meaning I can't use those during the login screen. I am guessing it is a driver issue.


Things I tried:


Taking the CMOS battery

Tried all USB ports

Checking Bios to see if USB was disabled


Here are my PC specs:


Stock Optiplex 790 SFF case

i5 2400

Intel HD 2000 Intergraded graphics

8GB ram

2000 GB hard drive

D28yy motherboard

240-watt gold power supply stock

DELL OPTIPLEX 790 USB Ports Problem

We understand the concern as you are unable to use mouse and keyboard on your PC.
In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

• What is the Version and Build of Windows 10 installed on the PC? (Type
  winver in Windows search/Run command)
• Did you try connecting them to the different USB port?
• Are you aware of any changes on the PC prior to this issue?

Refer the article to Create a system restore point and
then proceed with the below steps.

Step 1: Uninstall and reinstall the USB controller

1. Press Windows + X key
   and select Device Manager from the context menu.
   
2. Spot and expand the “Universal Serial Bus controllers”.
   
3. Right click on the USB Composite Device driver and select
   “Uninstall”
   
4. Check the box beside “Delete the driver software for this device”
   
5. Restart the PC and then plug in the keyboard and mouse.

Step 2: Disable USB selective suspend

1. Press Windows + R key to open
   Run command.
   
2. Type control panel and click
   OK.
   
3. Now change the category to
   Small icons for View by.
   
4. Click on Power option. Click on Change plan settings
   
5. Click on Change Advanced power settings, then expand
   USB settings.
   
6. Now expand USB selective suspend setting.
   
7. Select Disabled from the drop-down menu.

If the PC is running Windows 10, then we can suggest you a workaround because the Dell OptiPlex 790 has drivers for Windows XP, Vista, 7 & 8 operating system. Then download the
Chipset and Serial ATA driver available for Windows 8/7
operating system and install in compatibility mode.

Dell Optiplex 790 SFF Crashing While Playing Games

Hello,

So I have a Dell Optiplex 790 SFF (Small Form Factor) running Windows 10. Everytime I start playing Minecraft or Team Fortress 2, it shuts down in about 5 minutes. Anyway I can stop this from happening?
