OS Freezes when connecting to 5G internet - no BSOD, force restart

Since the Microsoft Anniversary update, I have been unable to connect to my wireless router's 5G internet connection (the 2.4 works just fine). As soon I input the password and hit connect it locks everything up - no BSOD, and I have to force restart.
Have run sfc/ scannow and there were no corrupt files. Updated driver for Realtek 8821AE Wireless LAN 802.11ac PCI-NIC and no changes.
Have tried to attempt in safe mode with networking but I'm unable to see any wireless networks in safe mode.

    :)

  3. Windows 10 kernel_security_check_failure while trying to connect to wifi

    Hi,

I am getting a BSOD while trying to connect to my WiFi, specifically on the 5G band. I can connect successfully to the 2G but as soon as I try to connect to the 5G I get the BSOD with the KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE. I have ran the driver verifier but
nothing comes up. I do have a Netgear AC1200 Wireless extender and the crash only happens when trying to connect through that device. I have looked through and tried everything I could find to no avail, from upgrading/downgrading drivers to running all sorts
of checks (which seem to come up fine). Any help/suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You need to do a Clean Install not a upgrade. Delete the device and driver in device manager for the network device, reboot and let windows reinstall. Also check router settings to make sure that SSID is not hidden and that you are not using MAC rules to block or allow devices.
