Windows 10: Out of ideas, please help. Mysterious "unrecognizable USB device" repeatedly connects and...

Pretty much the title, I keep getting the USB connect sound followed by the "USB device not recognized" error and then the USB disconnect sound. It's not consistent or predictable, it'll happen 5 times in a minute or not at all for hours, but I can't get it to stop. I've unplugged everything but my keyboard and mouse, reseated front USB connectors on the motherboard even though nothing is plugged into front USB, reinstalled drivers, restarted, updated, everything I can think of.

Ideas anyone?

• Is the issue particular to connecting phone or Hard drive?
• Does the issue occur with both (3.0 & 2.0) the USB ports?

I suggest you to update the drivers by following the steps below and check if it helps.

• Press Windows key + X, select Device Manager.
• Expand Universal Serial Bus Controller.
• Right click on the drive, select Update Driver Software and follow the on-screen prompts.
