  1. Out of Memory with plenty free????

OK, I've got a decent PC here, but since the latest Windows Update and Nvidia driver update, I'm having a bit of an issue.

Randomly, I will get an error that Windows is running out of memory and that I should close some programs to free RAM.

Sadly, I usually have over half of my 16GB of RAM free when this error occurs.
After the Nvidia driver update, I started to get some artifacts on the screen like you would see if the card was overheating. My card is sitting quite happily under 45C, so I'm pretty positive that wasn't the issue.
I rolled the Nvidia drivers back to 352.63 and that resolved the artifacts and chrome crashing constantly.

Still I continue to receive the out-of-memory errors and I cannot figure this out. I could see if the HD was getting full and there's wasn't room for the virtual memory. Except that both my 1TB drives in use are only at about 60% capacity each. I checked the virtual memory settings and it shows 8.7GB comitted of 32GB Allocated. (I've seen it go as far as 47GB allocated, not sure why it gets so high though when only 5GB was used then.)

Attached is a Speccy report taken shortly after receiving the error.

  2. 5800XM - Memory Full error, even though plenty of memory !

    Hi

Out of the blue recently I've started to get this message every time I try a backup to the memory card:

"File manager: Memory full. Close some applications and try again"

This is despite having no other apps open, 49MB of phone memory free & 2.2 GB on the 16GB card.

I do have 90 messages in my inbox but this shouldn't cause this should it ?

    Can anyone help ?

    thanks

*EDIT* Maybe it's related to this:

Finally 52.0.007 approved for my phone.

Out of Memory with plenty free????

Windows has multiple kinds of memory, some of them have more restrictive limits than others.

For example, there are User and GDI heaps. You can run out of these heaps long before you run out of physical or virtual memory. This is particularly bad if your software has resource leaks. If you run a lot of applications, especially a lot of gui or graphic intensive ones, you can run out of these resource heaps.

The only real solution is to shut down stuff you're not using, even though you still have memory available. If it's a resource leak, you may even have to reboot to get all your heap memory back.

  5. OK, narrowing it down a bit...

Out of Memory with plenty free???? [IMG]

What's strange though, is that when I look at resource monitor, it doesn't show anything near what the "Committed" numbers show in this picture.
I am running an older application that was previously known for it's memory leaks, but that was resolved in the application a while ago.

Why am I suddenly seeing this now after a Windows Update? It wasn't an issue before just a couple of days ago.
Recent installed updates are KB3051768, KB3046002, KB3061904, and "Feature on Demand for X64 (.NET 3.5)".
I guess I'll have to take them out one by one to find which one started this issue.

I would suggest running something like ProcessExplorer, or TaskInfo to try and track down what exactly is committing that much memory.

Looking at your tasklist, it looks like you have a pretty resource intensive game system running. In fact, one process alone is using 1.4GB of memory. You also have a LOT of chrome tabs open, and chrome sucks up a lot of memory as well.

  7. Chrome does use a bit, but not that much. elementclient.exe will use up to 1.6GB, but it doesn't go past that. Even with two of them running, plus the chrome windows, and a backup running I'm only at 7.6GB of 16GB used, and the "Committed" is at 10.4/43.7GB.

Based on what I see, looks like "Committed" is actually the page file usage.

After a lot of hair pulling, I finally found the issue. elementclient.exe was not running "as administrator", and for some reason this causes it to load up the page file. Running the task with admin creds does not cause this issue.

So, if you have any older programs designed around the Windows XP era, should probably always set them to run as admin in the compatibility settings.
Still not sure why it's suddenly having that issue on Win10 though. I never had that happen on 7, and it didn't occur without running as admin on previous versions of 10.

Out of Memory with plenty free????

I'm getting this "out of memory" error too, only after installing windows 10. My c drive is on a 250gb ssd with over 150gb free space, so im not sure what it's talking about. This typically only happens when the computer goes to sleep, which makes me think it's a bug in windows os

again, this only started happening after I installed windows 10, nothing else changed. when this errors occurs it forces all the programs I have open (photoshop, 3ds max, zbrush etc) to stop responding, which means work is lost

    any solutions for this?

Let me try to break this down for ya digzelot,
#1 Sleep mode is almost useless (To me anyway) Maybe search on turning that off?
#2 If you think you are going to be away from your computer, Try saving your work before you leave, before it goes into sleep mode?
#3 If you honestly have 32gb of ram as stated in your specs... Idk what to tell ya.

I haven't had the Out of Memory issues that you quote here, but I am certainly having artifacts on the screen, and constant jumping of the screen too. I changed the HDMI lead, and that worked for a short time, but now I am getting the artifacts/jumping again. I didn't have this at all with Win 7 Ultimate which I had before the upgrade, which I did 3 days ago. PC is almost unusable in it's current state. I'm thinking of junking Win 10, although I would be willing to try rolling back the NVidia drivers if I only knew how. *Mad

When asking for help it is best to create your own thread in the appropriate section with all relevant information. While your symptoms may be identical to those in this thread the cause may be completely different. You will get better help in your own thread.
