Outlook 2010 needs to be re-activated and looses info !!!

When upgrading a Windows 7 pc that also runs Outlook 2010, chances are that your Outlook account is wiped and that you need to re-activate Outlook 2010.

This does NOT apply to Outlook 2013!!!

On multiple occasions (more than 4 in the last couple of days) I noticed that when updating a Win7 (Home) PC which is also running Outlook 2010 (not 2013) the account(s) set in Outlook are wiped and Office (2010) must be re-activated.

Be extra careful to collect all data (login, password(s) and server data) before upgrading to Windows 10 and using Outlook 2010.
Outlook normally creates a "PST" file (that contains all the data like email and agenda entries)
If you copy the PST file before upgrading, the same file can be used after the upgrade has been done.

Create a new account in Outlook 2010
don't let Outlook (2010) decide where to put the PST file but create your own folder (and remember)
make sure to name the PST file the same as it was named before (username.pst in most cases)
    Finish setting up the account.
Stop Outlook immediately after creating the new account.
Copy the "old" PST file to the new location (make sure to backup the new PST file first)
Start Outlook and all data will be back as before *Smile

    Good Luck

    :)

  2. Syncing with my windows mobile smartphone model HTC HD2 with Outlook 2010 that i just activated.

If you have Outlook 2010 64 bit, this is the problem - you will need to install the 32 bit version if you want to sync your Outlook info with your phone.

  3. Ovi Suite 2.2.0.245 broke Outlook 2010 sync, stuck at "Preparing to sync..."

241 worked pretty well, but with 245 I cannot sync with Outlook 2010 at all.

The preparation phase will not complete:

    "Preparing to sync notes..."

"Preparing to sync calendar and tasks..."

    It also cannot be aborted.

When setting up sync, the selection of Outlook folders is very slow (several minutes), but it eventually does allow me to choose a folder. Still, I'm guessing the problem lies with the Outlook interface (MAPI?)

I haven't tried to re-install Ovi yet, but looks like I have to.

    - 245 was an update to 241 (no re-install)

  4. Outlook 2010 needs to be re-activated and looses info !!!

Good advice. I faced the same problem when I upgraded machines for a few people with MSOffice 2010. Luckily the PST files were saved in the Windows 7 backup which I later restored. (Thankfully). All I needed to do from there was reactivate office and all was sweet.
