Want to know what the total size on disk is for a clean install of 10? And why do I now see 433gb taken up on a 1tb drive 10 was installed onto? 14gb for the 64bit flavor of 10 Pro subtract from 433gb out of 920gb useable drive space for a 1tb drive equals files I saw added to the drive! 433 - 14 = 422gb less a few possible megabytes of temp files and folders likely amounts to 421.99gb of program installs as well as downloads and files copied over to the drive.. That's where the drive space gets taken by!

Try running TreeSize Free as administrator - that will help you find what is taking the space.

Wow - WizTree is fast. Unfortunately it doesn't show the compressed size. As I'm writing a program at the moment to make a minimal sized windows for my VMs I need to see the actual disk used - not the nominal size. I probably run TreeSize 10 times a day - it isn't perfect as it gets terribly confused by junction points but it is the best I've found so far (except it sometimes vastly underestimates disk use).

Compare the two - TreeSize says my Windows directory is 3GB (about right if I look from another external system), WizTree says it is 16.9GB which it definitely isn't. Program Files is 2.3 GB or 87.7MB - take your pick.

p.s. explorer is not correct either *Wink

If you don't use Compact /CompactOs:always (or your upgrade didn't do it for you) then WizTree looks better.

  5. It only confirms what I already knew just where the most drive space was being used! I put it to the test on the 7 drive that would have the most after the 3yrs. of steady use along Windows 10 set up files extractions, iso images, vhds, etc. along with music and video files and guess where the "Heavy Hitters" are most seen?

The next largest under the last on the bottom is for Duke Nukem 1 or the original 8bit dos game coming in at 1.68mb! The yellow outlined areas right at the top other then the 20gb plus or minus a few gig are the Big ones! Program Files doesn't way much on the 64bit 7 here since most everything ends up being installed into the Program Files(x86) folder anyways on the 64bit Windows with the exceptions of the 64bit flavor of a few softwares.

Stumbled upon this old thread and adding my experience here. CCleaner kept telling me about +50Gig of data in %AppData%/Temp, I deleted it several times but it always came back. So I decided to keep it for a while to see what happens next and guess what... Windows 10 updated a few days ago on my machine. So I guess the data was what the OS downloaded in the background to update itself.

Since the update everyhting is back to normal, CCleaner reports now only 1Gig of usual crap like some memory dumps, internet cache, small amount of temp data etc

  7. I have done the same thing for years. Appdata/Local/Temp. I always clean that out when I do my normal disk cleanup maintenance with no issues at all.

One thing to note with Disk Clean up, it will only clear files/folders from Appdata\Local\Temp if they are more than a week old, just in case they might still be needed. Manually deleting them all, as others have said, doesn't seem to cause any issues.
