    Overtype mode keeps occurring by itself on Windows 10


    My computer has been continuously entering overtype mode in multiple programs as if I hit the 'ins' key by itself. This is a new installation of the latest Windows 10.


    Anyone noticing this?


    Anyone know the registry value to block this?

    You mean MS Words ?

    Go to the options ---> alt + o (one or two times) then ---> advanced options

    To enable the INSERT key in order to control Overtype mode, click to select the " Use the Insert key to control overtype mode " check box.

    To keep Overtype mode always enabled, click to select the "Use overtype mode " check box.

    or

    Method 2

    Right-click the Status bar, and then click Overtype. "Insert" is now displayed on the left side of the Status bar.

    To use Overtype mode, click Insert on the Status bar. "Overtype" is now displayed on the left side of the Status bar.

    When I press the <insert> button on my keyboard, nothing happens (it does not toggle overtype mode on or off).
