Windows 10: Overwatch is having stutters / game freezes

it's a known issue and it's up to nvidia to fix it.. you should just turn off shadowplay in geforce experience and consider using a different program to record your footage. i personally use obs and it works great.

I play on low settings b/c i play it competitively and want all the FPS and advantage I need.

144hz and my FPS is usually 250 - 300

but sometimes I get microstutters or hard stutters and it happens out of no where. I never had this issue until recently.

I already did a full virus scan, I personally think it has to do with this:



i use ShadowPlay and have instant replay on for the past 60 seconds. I always had this on the whole time and never had any issues in my game.

I personally haven't noticed any other game that has these stutters. I reinstalled the game as well, and it's also on my SSD.

DWM.exe frequently causes computer to freeze temporarily (specifically when using firefox).

I tried uninstalling all the Nvidia drivers. In the short time I had them uninstalled, I didn't crash, but the performance hit in the games I like to play wasn't worth it! The FPS stuttered a lot more without the drivers, so I didn't last long before
putting one on again. It didn't automatically install a driver, so I just reinstalled the most recent one (need a relatively recent one that's optimized for Overwatch, anyway). Of course, the issue came back, as well.

The temporary computer freezes aren't so bad, it's just that some applications remain frozen until restarted. For instance, Overwatch and Hearthstone both remain frozen, but World of Warcraft continues to run after my computer unfreezes. I could live with
the freezes if I didn't have to do a client restart every time one happened.

 

Cursor and keyboard freeze on Windows 10

So lately my cursor has been freezing and after some investigation I also noticed that my keyboard freezes when this happens. I have done several scans on different anti-virus and anti-malware programs.

The issue seems random, but one repeatable case is alt tabbing out of overwatch, where it takes a good 5-10 seconds before I am able to move my mouse or use my keyboard.

There might also be an association with disk usage, but I'm uncertain as while alt tabbing there is none.

In-game in overwatch the cursor stutters and is absolutely unplayable.

I have tried deleting and reinstalling (some)drivers, sfc /scannow, re-installing logitech gaming software and closing and disabling realtek audio.

Edit: also my PC is not a laptop so the palm thing with touchpads is not a problem.

I will try more drivers and a complete re-install of logitech gaming software soon.

Edit2: Further testing suggests that this actually occurs at or near 100% CPU or 100% GPU usage, I'm uncertain which, and yes this is a new issue, I have been able to be at 100% of either and use my mouse normally before, so any suggestions?

Are you maxing out on memory while playing the game? What are the system temperatures at while playing?

 

how recently? do you have the latest nvidia graphics driver installed? if so.. did you have issues before installing the latest driver?

 

nope, the memory is fine from what I can see and my temps are always below 60C

hmm well I noticed this issue about a month ago and decided to reinstall Overwatch fully which I believed it actually fixed the issue and now I notice it again about 2 days ago. I have the latest driver, I tried about 7 differnt versions of the driver. I even tried to use DDU to reinstall the drivers but that never fixed it. I had issues on all 7 versions

 

try doing a clean boot and see if that makes any difference.. to me it sounds like something is running in the background that might be causing the issue.. disable shadowplay for the time being to see if that makes any difference. ( i read this has been the cause for some stuttering in games..) just a test to see if this problem still exists.

 

i ended a nvidia container 32bit process and it disabled shadowplay and fixed my issue. why is shadowplay causing me game lag
