I wrote SAMSUNG with a potential problem with the 3 month old SSD drive looking for manufacturer's tools to diagnosis the drive (I am aware of (some, I am sure not all) of Lenovo's diagnostic tools).EMAIL TO SAMSUNG: Subject : SAMSUNG MZVPW256HEGL-000L7What tools are available to test for SSD health and or impending failure for the SAMSUNG MZVPW256HEGL-000L7, Lenovo Thinkpad P51. Programs like CrystalDisk and HWINFO give conflicting info and may not seem to understand this SSD drive. thank you. THEY WROTE BACK:Samsung does not provide Software support for our OEM drives. Please contact Lenovo for more information.Lenovo Dianostics come up clean as does Crystal Disk and running SMART from the cmd prompt. HWINFO indicates a problem.

Backup and Restore not enabled in win10 - an answer - Samsung SSD issue

Backup not enabled in win10

I bought a Samsung EVO850 500GB SSD and installed it using the Samsung provided Clone and Samsung Magician software tools.

I then found that the Backup and Restore functions in Win10 were no longer available.

After 3 days of searching the Web, contacting both Samsung and Microsoft with no solution or satisfaction, I found the solution at Problem with new SSD and Windows Backup - [Solved] - Storage

They say: ........."It is indeed the Samsung Magician. In version 4.3 it is under "SYSTEM MANAGEMENT" / "OS Optimization". One of the items disabled when I selected the "Maximum Reliability" tab disabled the backup and restore within Windows 7 64-Bit.."

So, Samsung, shame on you for doing that to us

Microsoft, please put the solution up for all to see.

 

Win 10 Pro Install Fails With Error C1900101-20017

My issue was with how the system partitions on my Samsung SSD were created when I imaged the drive. In an earlier post, I described how I got that fixed, and W10 then installed without problem. I assume that the Samsung imaging software they provide now
works correctly - it didn't when I got my SSD two years ago.

If the laptop is new, why not contact Lenovo first? They would be able to replace it under warranty.

 

Lenovo is responsible for any warranty issues with OEM components. It would be the same way if you had a Western Digital hard drive, it would still be Lenovo. Same way if you had a Dell or HP or whatever brand, they would be responsible.

 

I neglected to mention that I did contact them first through chat though I am thinking I might have more luck if I talk with a "humnan." And chat had me run a LENOVO diagnostic using their utility and it came up clean. Nothing they would do for me since it was a third party app showing the problem.

Thanks for the link on how to post screenshots. Also I already tried installing Samsung Magician and it told me that my NVME SAMSUNG SSD MZVPW256HEGL-000L7 is not supported ( :

Download and install samsung magician.

 

Looks like if you can't find someone in Lenovo to handle the problem you are "SOL" unless it completely dies.
First thing to do is make a full drive (disc image of all partitions) to an external drive with a program such as the free (and popular) Macrium Reflect. Then if it (or when) it dies you will have a full restore backup.

The other option is to buy a new SSD, maybe a larger capacity if you think you'll need it and replace the OEM with the new "Retail" model.

 

I use Acronis TI 2018 though I have used MRF in the past. More likely I would get a 2nd SSD and image it and keep it handy should something catastrophic happen even though the current drive is covered for the next few years. Great that the author clarified what his program does.

I used to use Acronis TI but it failed me two different times attempting to restore and it didn't get a third chance.
