  2. Windows update | Initiating changes for package. Current state is Absent

    Hello,

Issue: Installed Windows Update does not show/list in the Control Panel -> Installed Update.

This has been observed every month in multiple servers and desktops so obviously this is not a system-level issue and might be as per Microsoft design.

We have noticed that after installing Windows Updates like Cumulative Updates, and Monthly Rollups, it asks for a reboot which may default comment. But, after installing an update and might be after rebooting system, the Event says Initiating changes for package KBXXXXXX. Current state is Absent.

And the Installed Windows Update does not show/list in the Control Panel -> Installed Update.

Why? Is this because Microsoft superseded patches? Do we have a clear statement or document link from Microsoft?

    And so on.

    KB updates fail to install

After reboot, they go up to 30% and reboot and fail, and this happens every day now.

I also downloaded manually and tried to install, same story.

Also ran wureset2.0.bat didn't fix the problem.

also tried reset the Windows Update Components. Didn't fix.

    So what's left?

Manual reinstall of windows from image file??

Package failed to be changed to the Absent state in Windows

Package KB4489886 failed to be changed to the Installed state. Status: 0x800f0922.

My work laptop has been trying to update KB4489886 since the middle of February. It tries to update about 3 times a week and ends up rolling back the changes because they cannot complete. This is very annoying as it takes about 15 minutes to complete this
    whole process.

From windows event-viewer, it goes through these states:

Initiating changes for package KB4489886. Current state is Staged. Target state is Installed. Client id: WindowsUpdateAgent.

A reboot is necessary before package KB4489886 can be changed to the Installed state.

Package KB4489886 failed to be changed to the Installed state. Status: 0x800f0922.

I've tried manually installing the update along with numerous fixes from people's suggestions on internet forums including the following site: Windows 11 2023 Update won't download or failed to install [solved]

Nothing seems to work. This is a company group policy fed update, however I have full admin rights to my laptop. Of course my companies desktop support is useless and all they did was try and restart the windowsUpdate process.

    My specs:

OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise

    Version 10.0.16299 Build 16299

    System Manufacturer HP

System Model HP ZBook 15u G5

    System Type x64-based PC

    Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8650U CPU @ 1.90GHz, 2112 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)

    BIOS Version/Date HP Q78 Ver. 01.04.00, 9/12/2018

I've exhausted my search findings on this update/problem and need any help I can get.

    Thanks.
