page file causes high disk usage and making my pc slow

my pc is so slow in internet browsing and gaming because of high disk usage.

i tried everything disabling show me tips about windows and superfetch, changing virtual memory, scanning for virus.

and then i found out page file caused the high disk usage so i disable it, then my pc became so fast and no high disk usage but i keep getting low memory error and crashes even though i'm only using 60%-70% of my ram.

so i checked resource monitor and found out more than half of my ram goes to standby and only 1 mb in free

so is there anyway to disable standby memory?

    specs:
    cpu: i5 4440
    ram: 8gb 1600 ddr3
    gpu: gtx 950 2gb

    :)

  2. Corrupt File

My computer was running a bit slow, so I checked in the task manager what was causing the issue. There would be fluctuations between high CPU, memory, and disk usage, which after doing some research on, was likely caused by a store corruption.

HP Stream 14: Laptop slows down when charging

This is not related to memory or an out-of-date operating system or corrupted system files; it's the battery and processor that's causing it. There is no high CPU/memory/disk I/O usage other than just a slow processor when charging my battery.

I need a complete explanation of the root cause here...

I would let windows manage your physical memory and page file it's very good at that and put the page file back it can be important for physical memory allocation sometimes .

Windows 10 page file to ram compression allocated size is insignificant anyway .

You didn't mention if all this web browser drama was during multitasking ,what browser and how many tabs open or what other conditions are present like GTA 5 which can use up a decent Core X or AMD FX CPU on high settings ? all these variables can even stall (nearly so ) my Haswell core i5 @ 8 GB ram on an SDD if taken to an extreme .

OTOH an SSD with a windows boot drive would be a stonking good upgrade on a core i3,i5,i7 ,AMD FX or any PC (even on an old PC with only 300 GB/s SATA II maximums and move things along considerably faster with less stalling and hanging , rember also that SSD will speed up any data written to or cached to the SDD or fetched off a metal HDD like this Haswell Core i5 Sata III 6GB/s dual boot PC in my specs ,yours is ofc SATA III 6 GB/s potential also but not anthing close to half of that on metal here is my SDD I/O :*really

the problem is windows uses page file even if i have more than 30% of memory free so my disk usage become 100% and games start stuttering and pc becomes slow so i have to close everything and wait a min until my pc returns to normal.

is there a way to make windows uses page file only when i max my ram or a way to disable standby memory so i can disable page file without games crashing?

  6. Cant answer that .

OTOH rember windows mirrors your HDWE x2 in standby ram but the metal HDD SB core i7 /8GB and nvidia GTX 680 in the music game room at my crib here as we speak isn't having any problems with the BF 1 beta @1080p real decent here on a 40" Sony screen or any of newer shooters and drive sims and its only a 2 GB card and again you haven't given us the use or multi task conditions or not outside of what game (s) ? you have all this drama with and presumably have adequate CPU/case cooling for your configuration and GTV is a presumably a CPU killer anyway so you might have to manage any multi tasking and hires ultra settings with one d/GPU like we have *really

this has nothing to do with gpu or cpu.
    basically this is what happens
pagefile enabled= high disk usage slow pc no crashes or low memory error
pagefile disabled= low disk usage fast pc but crashes and low memory error
and this is b/c standby memory takes all my ram so the windows is forced to use page file and if there;s no page file windows crashes

I think you have plenty of CPU/GPU /RAM for decent single d/GPU gaming on most of the new games at 1080p ultra nearly high or 1080p not as high but real decent (depending on the game ) but you still have to manage all that within any usual PC's limitations as well as your GPU and Vram clocking (and sometimes auxiliary GPU cooling and make sure your PSU ain't sagging a voltage rail under hard use and that it is *really* is big enough to start and you haven't been willing to get more specifics about any of this and as to what games /conditions /temps /multitasking /browser type and tabs open how long PC is on ,etc are going on with this drama or not .

My Game box is playing 1080p ** fine and multi tasking and all that without any issues if you manage the GPU and ** right ,it is an single GTX 680 SB Core i7 running the AU on metal still and configured properly with a stout PSU and auxiliary air cooling all around including blowing on the d/GPU they sometimes skimp on the fans half the time .

I'm out of here there are just too many variables without info to consider but maybe someone else can come along and help you out that may know more about windows 10 memory management or maybe you just need a clean install .

I've had the same conditions more ( prolonged CPU and memory use randomly spiking unwarrantedly ) on win 10 betas all around and .th2 stable where a clean install fixed it more than once on the 6 core 8 GB ram test mule this PC in my specs just replaced last wk. OTOH the game box is still on an 7 x64 > windows 10 upgrade license and currently running the AU and never a clean install since RTM 10240 so go figure .... *really

i run my games at 1366*768 and on high not ultra so my gpu is good enough and they run fine for the first 30-45 min until standby memory take all my ram and forces windows to use page file or crashes if page file is disabled, and i only have 10 tabs max open in chrome and only 5 extensions. all i need is stopping standby memory from taking all my ram so windows doesn't have to use page file or crashes and everything will be fixed.

and this guy have the same problem and he didn't say anything about gaming Crashes, Low memory Warnings after changing Virtual Memory settings - Windows 10 Forums

Your problem has nothing to do with standby memory. The screenshot of physical memory in post #1 is so close to the ideal as is rarely seen. The normal state of memory not "In use" is on the standby list. Modified and free memory should be low, zero being the optimum value. Many times I have seen zero free memory with no problems whatsoever. Windows was designed to work this way.

Low memory warnings rarely have anything to do with physical memory. More likely it relates to the commit limit being reached. This can happen even with substantial free memory. Resource Monitor is of little value with this kind of problem. A screenshot of Task Manager - Performance tab showing memory info when the problem occurs would be more useful

  12. Chrome & 10 tabs open in chrome and moreover 5 extensions. can be a problem you can easily see in taskman like you said .

one problem is waiting for poorly extensions or plugins like NPAPI plugins or the somewhat better pepperflash or a lot of extensions to call up and cache data to and from a metal hdd or page file slows down the parade and it can affect the CPU also and significantly prolong what Chrome is doing .*really

You probably know Chrome is an egregious single tab one running process memory hog and memory prioritizer the longer its on w/multi tabs and it takes forever to release the memory handlers on a closed tab so 10 tabs can often tax memory like 20 open tabs with 10 more tabs maybe you closed recently and so on and so on .

You may know we have to learn how manage chrome or close it for a while now and then and then when it first gets out hand (a little ) with all that and longer you delay that , the longer it takes to get regular short of a forced re start if you don't manage your open tabs but you may know all this anyway if you been using Chrome for a default like me or just use it much . .

Add in some windows multi tasking and a game or not maybe a 1080p video and or some transcoding and the OP symptoms and slowing to a crawl or stalling are entirely plausible and maybe without any remediation .
other hand ,open 10 busy web pages and it can be like 20 quiet web pages for a while .

I try to manage 8-10 tabs and no games on this machine (it's not a gamer) even though cold *no Chrome processes lingering* this thing can load and run 40 -50 tabs very likely only briefly.though ........ I never tried it very long OTOH 8 -10 tabs and every day windows computing multi tasking are *usually fine but that can vary . *really

  14. U sure you didn't get some malware love with a torrent ? *really

OTOH how long since a clean install from media or USB and any WU in place new build upgrade or AU on that OS ? .

Clean OS install may fix that CPU and or memory spiking seen it way more than once and it fixed that drama on these winbetas ,you have plenty of CPU/RAM d/GPU and Vram but I went over that clean install stuff already andf that PC should play newer game 1080p ,1080p *** very well *really

FWIW I clean install every other winbeta beta from an ESD I save from the WU NBuild download in the hidden and temporary $WINDOWS.~BT > source folder on C:\ before ESD gets moved into a recovery partition but you have to copy the ESD before you execute the WU install newBuild re start the ESD gets shoved in a virtually hidden no access recovery partition or something when you install a nBuild via WU .*really
