I have constant crashes in the new Flight Simulator (and had them with the shader compilation when starting Horizon Zero Dawn the first time or updating GPU drivers).

I have 16 GB physical RAM and the pagefile is set to the recommended Automatic + System managed size. Windows creates a 6.5 GB pagefile wich makes my committed memory 22.5 GB

These two games are very memory hungry and take up all of the 22.5 GB and crash to desktop, confirmed by windows eventmanager (*) and HWInfo logging.

    - The pagefile does not grow automatically. There is space on the SSD

    - When I put the pagefile to another drive, it creates again only 6.5 GB and does not grow

I know from other people, Flight Simulator can take up easily 40 GB+ of virtual memory

What is wrong with my pagefile, i read that it automatically increases or decreases when needed but mine does not, it stays always at 6.5 GB and I already noticed this in the past because I use TreeSizeFile every other day.

(\)* Resource-Exhaustion-Detector (Event 2004)Windows successfully diagnosed a low virtual memory condition. The following programs consumed the most virtual memory: FlightSimulator.exe (5952) consumed 20718866432 bytes, CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess.exe (11560) consumed 1281769472 bytes, and RadeonSoftware.exe (13232) consumed 342679552 Bytes."

As you can see there 99.9 % virtual memory used with 9 MB left when the crash happened

  2. increasing of virtual memory

    Hi,

You should let Windows handle the Virtual Memory as it will increase or decrease its size on the fly (as needed). Increasing virtual memory "might" allow some programs to run more efficiently (large memory consuming programs such as Photoshop). However setting
the virtual memory too high can significantly slow down your computer.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Pagefile does not grow / increase - crashes because I run out of virtual memory

How to get Rid of Increased Virtual Memory

Before I go into how to do this, let me dispel a possible misconception:

Virtual memory is dynamic. This means that Windows will use more or less virtual memory on the fly as needed by the system. It also means that if you are running low on space, Windows will use less virtual memory, although, if you are running that low on space, you have other issues as well *Smile.

In other words, by decreasing this size, you are really not saving the space that you think you are.

It is recommended that you allow Windows to manage this space unless you have a really good reason to change it (rarely necessary).

You can change the virtual memory settings like this:

Manage Virtual Memory Pagefile in Windows 10

Press Windows Key + R and type in the following:

    %windir%\System32\SystemPropertiesAdvanced.exe

    Press ENTER

On the "Advanced" tab, click on "Settings" in the "Performance" section:
