    Pagefile on SD card

    Hi

I have an Acer One 10 2-in-1 with 32 GB storage and 32GB SD card, and I am trying to move the pagefile to the SD to free up space on the main storage.
So I went to Advanced system settings Virtual Memory and disabled page file on C, and set it as System managed size on D (SD Card)

After rebooting or signing out I get this

    Pagefile on SD card [IMG]

The SD is formatted as NTFS, has enough free space and doesn't have any errors

    Any help will be appreciated

    Thanks

    :)

    Local storage issues.

Microsoft will not find a solution to your problem, because your problem is a hardware limitation, 32GB HDD. The work around is to disable the pagefile, hibernation and prevent windows feature updates. Get an SD card for secondary storage if the device supports
it and install software onto the SD card.

    Pagefile on SD card

It might be the SD card wasn't available early enough in the boot process.

I'm sure others struggling with such limited storage will contribute.

    Thank you

So you mean the SD card is initialized too late after Windows search for the pagefile, because the SD card is not ready, then it creates a temp one on C.
Is there a way to bypass this and make Windows use the one on the SD? or force the SD to be mounted earlier in the process?

I did a similar thing on my desktop: Move the pagefile out of the main SSD and store it on a secondary SSD but it worked fine.

This is not a vital issue but those 2 GB are too much in a 32GB (29GB) storage.

I'd look at trying to put other data e.g. personal files on the SD card first.

Note you can install programs on your SD card too.

You can analyse your disk usage with programs like Windirstat

    Thank you again.
Yeah I am installing almost every program (except Chrome and Office 2016, which don't seem to have the option to change their path) to the SD,
I also disabled hibernation as rarely I need this.
I regularly run disk cleanup and CCleaner to remove junk, specially after updating.

About WinDirStat, I use this neat piece of software on my desktop, and will use it on the 2-in-1 too.

I have currently 15.5 GB free, but any other idea to free more space, if moving pagefile is not possible, will be always be welcome!

I use the same switch 10,and windows is always telling me its filling up and I'm always deleting downloaded files and moving file to my sdcard ...laptop isn't really meant for much more than surfing the net and listing to music as I brows the net and use it to connect with my Pi

What rating does the sd card have if its less than 80MB/s it may give problems

SD cards are not designed to take the large quantity of read writes that a pagefile would create. This would be quickest way to toast heaven.

Also SD cards are far too slow. Small tablets get their performance because they have relatively fast mmc drives.

Do as others say, move data to sd card, install apps to ss card etc.

What Cereberus said in his reply, is more or less what I thought when I looked at this thread yesterday. Even a superfast SD card is likely to be slower than a 7,200 rpm hard disk. On my SD cards, I'm lucky to get speeds of 85 MBps, but even on a SpinPoint 1TB 2.5" 7,200 HD I get 171 read/104 write disk speeds in CrystalDiskMark. See attached screen caps (higher numbers come from HD/D: drive, lower from SD card/G: drive, both on my Lenovo i7 T520 laptop). Paging is one thing you want as fast as possible so it would be ideal to leave it on the same SSD where the OS also (hopefully) resides.

As you can see there are notable, across the board differences between the D: drive (HDD) and G: drive (SD Card) results. In general, the HD is at least 60% faster than the SD card, sometimes much more.

    Pagefile on SD card

Try setting your system's paging file to No paging file and see how it performs. I know this is not for everyone, but I have been running my laptop for several months without any paging file. If it does not work for your system, you can also change it back.
