Windows 10: Pagefile.sys too big? I want to clean up some space

Discus and support Pagefile.sys too big? I want to clean up some space in Windows 10 Ask Insider to solve the problem; I got 16 gb ram. My windows is on a 120 GB SSD.     Pagefile.sys too big? I want to clean up some space


    I got 16 gb ram. My windows is on a 120 GB SSD. I checked my PC with TreeSize and it shows that my pagefile.sys is 12.5 GB and my hiberfil.sys is 6.3 GB. I also checked System & Reserved under Windows Storage Settings and it shows that I also got a 'Reserved storage to facilitate proper performance and successful updates of your device' which also is 7.72 GB. Can I get rid of any of this stuff? Does these help me?

    My paging file looks like this: Minimum allowed 16 MB, Recommended 2926 MB, Currently allocated 12800 MB. It's the pagefile allocated too big for my ram size?

    How do I defrag my C: pagefile .sys my O&O Degrag Prof states that the files is 32G with a 97.71 degree of relative fragmentation?

    Clear Pagefile on Shutdown


    I've been looking into clearing the pagefile, and I found the following steps at a somewhat dated webpage:
    1. In the registry editor, navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management
    2. Set ClearPageFileAtShutdown to the REG_DWORD value of 1.
    3. Restart Windows.
    I'm just wondering whether those steps are still valid, and, if so, does clearing the pagefile work as advertised?

    The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

    Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.
