  1. Paint cannot open specific files anymore.

So just last night I noticed that my Microsoft Paint application stopped working. I could not reinstall it through the settings apps nor could I find it on the Microsoft store, so I had to make a risky move and reinstall it via a 3rd party website. Not only did this update the icon for it, but also it's now causing a huge issue for me.For some inexplicable reason, it will not open certain images. I will get an error saying "c:\users\[my name]\desktop\[first word in the file name].png was not found". The image is not corrupted by any means because it opens just fine in GIMP. I had thought that

  3. Photos are opening with Paint instead of Photos app

    Hello,

It's likely that your default application for opening photos is Paint. To change your default program in Windows 10 from
Paint to the Photo app, we suggest that you perform the following steps:

    • On the Start menu, select Settings.
    • Go to System, then go to Default apps.
    • Select Photos or any app that you like to be the default under
      Photo viewer.

Update us if the steps above helped you in resolving your concern.

My Paint 3D file won't open, any help?

    Hi OliverKearney,

Welcome to post in Microsoft Community. I'm Mosken, let me help you figure it out.

According to your description, I knew that your Paint 3D file cannot be opened, but other files including previous versions of the file can be opened. Is that right?

First of all, I suggest you try to copy the file to another device to see if it can be opened. Because this can determine whether it is a problem with the file itself.

Then it is recommended that you back up all data related to the app and try the fixes below.

    1. Repair Paint 3D

"Win" logo key + "Q" to open the search box and enter "Paint 3D", right-click "Paint 3D" at the top of the result list > "App settings" > "Reapir".

    2. Check updates for Paint 3D

Open the Microsoft Store, click "Library" in the lower left corner, then you will see the installed applications, click "Get updates" to see if there is an avaliable update for the application, please click the "Update" button on the right to update.

    3. Reset Paint 3D

"Win" logo key + "Q" to open the search box and enter "Paint 3D", right-click "Paint 3D" at the top of the result list > "App settings" > "Reset".

    4. Clear Microsoft Store Cache

Because the app is installed from the Microsoft Store, it may be related to the cache of the Microsoft Store, so it is recommended that you try to clear the cache of the Microsoft Store. "Win" logo key + "R" to open "Run", type "wsreset.exe", and hit enter (this will open a blank "Command Prompt" window, which will close and automatically open the Microsoft Store after about 10 seconds).

    5. Reinstall Paint 3D

You can try uninstalling the app in the apps list, restarting the system, then reinstalling the app in the Microsoft Store and seeing if you can open the file.

The above steps are provided based on the information I have learned so far, I wish that will be helpful to you. If your problem still cannot be solved by these steps, you could tell me the specific situation in the next reply. I will continue to assist you in solving the problem.
